A 2-step process.
1. Figure out what's wrong.
2. Think of how to fix it.

While I don't exactly have it all figured out, I do have some ideas.
For #1
I think capitalism (an obsession with money- money is everything attitude) combined with this liberalism experiment is the main problem. The two don't go together.

I think the states should have similar laws so you don't get away with something this side of the state line that is illegal one foot away.

That's interesting Trish. More power for the central government might help in some areas. Are you thinking drugs, guns, and marriage? I'd like to see more help in the area of mental health at every level of government.
The founding fathers were very concerned with not letting the Federal government get too powerful. I think they were on to something with the idea of individual power and responsibility.
One of the biggest problems now is that there are so many people that look to the government to fix everything, and don't take personal responsibility.

Yes, I was thinking along those lines and also the consequences of those as well. The whole judicial system needs an overhaul in my opinion. So much corruption in the governement straight on down to local officials. We could use more new (improved) laws and make our government officials actually work for a paycheck and benefits.

As PrimeRib said - it appears too late to fix anything and that's a damn shame and makes a good number feel hopeless. Which brings us to mental health issues. OMG - we need to get a hold of this very serious matter because our world has really been darkened to the effects this has on on our communities and world at large.

I don't pretend to have any answers.

I also have come up with a hairbrained idea (some may think) of how our states can gain more funds in the DOT departments throughout our states.

Might even curb some of the road rage out there.

It's complicated isn't it. There are problems in so many areas. Government corruption and waste is a big one.
So many feel hopeless, I'm sure, sad.

Headline this morning-

U.S. accuses S&P of fraud in pre-crisis mortgage ratings

http://www.staradvertiser.com/news/breaking/1...

"...But the government's lawsuit paints a picture of a company that misled investors knowingly, more concerned about making money than about accurate ratings. It says S&P delayed updating its ratings models, rushed through the ratings process and was fully aware that the subprime market was flailing even as it gave high marks to investments made of subprime mortgages. In 2007, one analyst forwarded a video of himself singing and dancing to a tune about the deterioration of the subprime market, with colleagues laughing...."

Set Term limits for Congress and the Senate, get rid of the career politicans, hard to fix something using the same old logic that broke it in the first place.

The Federal gov has moved completely away from representing the people-so we might as well fire
them all (that will take some doing-but where there's a will there's a way)
Let the governors of the states take over. I'll even let them elect our 1st president-on a 2 year trial basis, then back to basics.
It's pretty plan to see 'we' can get by without
representatives & senators much less a president.
Governors are much more directly responsible to the people.
