Lecavalier with a triple poster!

As a Flyer fan, it sucks it didn't go in.

But I'm still amazed with that shot.

It's stuff like that is why I love hockey.

The current overtime rules annoy me.

Go 5 on 5 for 10 minutes.

Then go 4 on 4 for ten minutes.

Then go to a shoot out.

While I'm ranting, if an OT/shootout game is worth 3 points (2 to the winner, one for the loser), then make a regulation game win worth 3 points.

Much better than the NCAA rules, which call for Overtime periods until someone scores....which is often waaaay toooo loong.....plus the NHL's shoot outs are great....

I never saw a game like the Flyers/St.Louis Game...3 periods of regular play...goes into OT...then to a shoot out...The Flyers are never dull...this certainly was a Goalies dull...

I just don't like the math of the overtime games.

You win in regulation time, it's only two points.

If you go to overtime, there's an extra point for the standings.

If I was the coach of a team in the process of rebuilding, I'd be colluding with the coach with the middle of the road teams looking to make the play-offs to play games for a tie.

Change it to 3 points for a regulation win. Two points for an overtime win, one point for an overtime loss and 0 points for a regulation loss.

I think that's a fair game scoring system.

But fair goes out the window when trying to create drama and TV ratings. <cough>Metropolitan division<cough>

Putting all of this aside...I would like to see the Flyers, get back to winning...during regulation time...I'm not happy with their current performance...:(

As would I.

But there are a lot of good teams out there who have already secured their spots in the real Hockey season of the playoffs.

I'd have to say Mason in goal should be a lock for the team's MVP and a candidate for the league.

His performance is huge reason the Flyer's are still in the hunt beyond the regular season.

I would like to see it go 3 on 3, 2 on 2, 1 on 1. Like in some tournaments. Sounds funny, but it rarely gets beyond 3 on 3.

There is only one overtime period, then the shootout....

For a regular season game, how about a 20 minute overtime?

First five minutes, it's still 5 on 5.

After every five minutes it gets reduced by 1.

Last 5 minutes would be 2 on 2.

(Which becomes an interesting strategy. Put out 2 forwards or 2 defense-men? Or one of each? Or put out 2 goons against their snipers, take the one point, and start a bench clearing brawl and use instant replay to figure out the penalties?)

The shootout sounded exciting at first. Ooooh, penalty shots!

Sniper vs. Goalie.

It took a very rare occurrence in hockey and made it seem common.

With very little team aspect.

I have never liked shootouts. I love OT. It's one of the things that makes the playoffs so great. When the point of going to 3 on 3 comes up people often say "Thats not true hockey", but a shootout is? At least going lower then 4 on 4 has an aspect of defense while ending a reg game in reasonable time.

For a regular season game, one 20 minute overtime with a measured opening up of the ice sounds reasonable.

But that introduces the problem of a tie at the end of overtime. fractional points? 1.5 to each?

That 5 overtime playoff game where Keith Primeau, a player who shut down the opposition elite players but didn't score much, scored the winning goal?

The end of that game looked like it was in movie time slow motion because the players were so worn down.

Yep. Now the real season begins.

I'm hoping the Flyers get to meet the Penguins. Playoff games between those two teams in the past years were fun to watch.
