Hartnell. Take your stick down the left flank.
Timonen, follow the Captain's banner down the center.
Voracek, take your company right, after you pass the half-wall.
Forth, and fear no defense!
Arise!
Arise, Skaters of Giroux!
Their goalies shall be shaken, hockey sticks shall be splintered!
A hockey day... a red lantern day... ere the game sets!

Apologies to King Theoden and J.R.R. Tolkien.

So the LA Kings defeated the Rangers for the Cup.

I shall not weep.

For as a Philly fan, any team that denies the Cup to a NY or NJ works for me.

And as a slight satisfaction, Justin Williams gets his name engraved on the Cup again. Always liked him as a player but he was also part of the 2006 team in Carolina.

When Rod Brind'Amour got his name engraved...

If the Flyers don't win it all, I'll settle for players who have worn the uniform.

And the next season is only a few months away.

The Kings did come back from a 0-3 deficit with the Sharks. A rare thing in playoff hockey.

I don't know what to think with the Kings. It's like they were just cruising to get to the playoffs and, suddenly, they kick it into high gear.

And I never thought I'd be rooting for Montreal. But against the this year's Rangers?!?

Little like a New York Giant's team, several years ago that beat an undefeated New England in the Superbowl.....

Now that I think about it, NY Rangers vs. LA Kings is an advertising wet dream.

Huge number of people to push their pitch.

If I were a cynical bastard that I actually am, I'd almost say it was a fix to promote the sport.

Instead of, you know, broadcasting more than 6 games on free TV in my local market or paying out the wazoo to the local cable monopoly.

Not really ... few people care about hockey in LA. It's not a hockey town and never has been.

I was pulling for the kings after they knocked out the blackhawks and feel they deserved it, but it would suck being a hockey player and playing in that town and it would have been nice to see a team win it that actually had more of a following.

A few adjustments to the rules might be needed too.

I remember a few winter Olympics ago, people who didn't follow hockey were excited with the hockey games. They were leaving work early to catch the game.

But for me to watch the Flyers, I get a half dozen games on weekend NBC TV.

I suppose I could pay the extortion that Comcast or XE or whatever they are calling themselves nowadays.

Or watch football. Go Eggles! Fry High!

Not surprising there.

I think the only ice they see there is in their drinks.

But I can't speak too ill of the Kings.

Simon Gagne got his name on the Cup there.

And I find satisfaction with that.

Hrm.

That previous post was flagged as inappropriate or offensive.

I didn't know if it was a sentence containing dive and Crosby or the past tense of the verb head referring to a soccer play.

The important thing was I bypassed the censoring.
