No, I'm not asking anything, and none of this is about me. EVERY person should have the right to be out in public alone without being approached by strangers. If they were raised correctly, they would think only about themselves and their own family and friends, in their own world, and not stare at others nor speak to strangers unless spoken to first. The sun has to shine, but the men CAN change their behavior as it serves NO valid nor constructive purpose.
Most of the men that these women in question complain about are crash. They are of a lower class than these women who have standards. These women are not race-mixing wh*res who go out with felons and addicts. No, they either want no men and to live a life totally isolated from men, or they want good quality men of their own race who are doctors, managers, scientists, nurses, or about any other prestigious profession.
It is impossible for such women to enjoy their walk, as it REQUIRES being respected the SAME as men. If men don't abuse them by approaching them for sex and raping their alone time, then why should they expect to do that to women? We need to attack this double standard, and it is excuses for such men as it seems you might be making (not intentionally) that cause this. Any women who blame the victims in this (always women) in the least or refuse to work to change society where the men doing this will feel really bad, face tremendous pressure, or change are betrayers of all woman. No offense, but your reply sounds a bit like, "If she didn't dress that way they might have lefter her alone, and boys will be boys, so you might as well to learn to enjoy being raped. It is just sex, and natural, and sex always feels good..."
I guess Im misunderstanding your definition of "rape" life is what it is.. and the male/female dynamic is nothing but double standards.. I in NO WAY condone phsyical rape.. regardless of how a woman dresses or presents herself... absolutely do not.. physical rape is rape.. but how many women who are offended by cat calls, and vulgar talk, have gotten pulled over by a police officer,, and unbuttoned a button before he gets to her door.. or gone to an interview, and crossed her legs,, instead of sitting strait with ankles crossed.. <quoted text>I get what you are saying about preventing unwanted attention but rape being an extreme form of unwanted attention proves that nothing you wear or do invites or prevents an attack.
The more minor yet annoying everyday unwanted behavior happens at all levels.
Remember the uncomfortable hugs Bush kept putting on Pelosi? Or when his -winked- at her Majesty Queen Elizabeth like she was his waitress at the local diner?
I doubt if they'd had shorter hair or dressed more dyke would have prevented it.
The law still doesn't allow them to beat him over the head as a response to his social gaffs of a wink or clumsy hug
His wife Laura or mother Barbara should have told him it was inappropriate and to keep his hands to himself.
Better yet will be someday when you can count on a father to teach his son that is inappropriate.
In the meantime all you can do is speak up. Pelosi should have taken him aside and said please don't do that it makes me uncomfortable.
You have interesting points, and I knew what you were trying to say by bringing rape into it.

Short hair might help some, since that is the universal sign of being butch, but that said, some guys have sick, arrogant attitudes, like the guy who threatened to rape the lesbianism out of some women. The police didn't take it as a credible threat, but they did and put the guy in the hospital for a while. They only got in trouble, IMHO, because the men involved with the case were sexist and believe women should all be treated like sexual filth, or in this case homophobic and feeling they should punish some "uppity lesbians" and make examples of them. That doesn't really work either, since now, these women have street creds.

As for the law, maybe more women should rise up and attack such men. Sure, they may go to jail, but it would be a form of civil disobedience, and if enough do it, the guys will learn it is not worth the risk to approach women outside of sanctioned places for doing so. Rioting is against the law too, but it happens on occasion. If you don't already know someone, chances are, they don't want anything to do with you.

At the end, you make the point that is made in the song, "Be Political, Not Polite."

No, you are not misunderstanding it. To rape means to violate. Sure, the classical definition is certainly a violation and the seriousness of that should never be lost. But there are other ways to violate others and intrude where you are not want. Literal, physical incrusion is only one way.

I am offended by cat calls, especially when it is low class, unemployed, broke trash, perhaps outside my ethnic group, making them.

As for the woman showing cleavage to an officer, that is simply not classy and makes things bad for all women. They ought to get her for bribery or L&L conduct or something. I would add such women to the list of women who make it harder for women, lack empathy for others women, or refuse to fight for all women.

I don't do any of the behaviors you mention as I am not a sexual being. The public is for business, eating, shopping, going to work, paying bills, etc. It is not for intruding into the lives of others and bothering them when they are looking ahead or down, self-absorbed, and their their own worlds. Maybe I should move to a crowded part of Japan where nobody notices nor sees anyone outside of their circle, but then they have groping epidemics on buses.

I know of a funny groping story. Someone spread lies about a woman born with an intersex condition. They told everyone she was a gay man. Well, a gay man came up to her and without her permission, ran his hand down her pants. She already had the corrective surgery, and the guy quickly pulled his hand out with disgust, muttering that she was a girl and quickly getting away from her. He probably told the person who set him up, and a lot of the harassment and rumors she was getting stopped. You'd think the idiot would keep the story about the molestation to himself, but he was going around telling everyone what was not in her pants that he expected to be there.

it just all seems so unbalanced to me.. dont get me wrong, there are times when you are in situations that are "wrong" but just male stupidity..isnt a rape . it is simple as social retardation on their part..giving you a compliment...honestly,, if a woman holds herself to such a high degree that a catcall offends her.. she should maybe stay inside...I mean this with respect.. its a big ol world we live in.. and I guess, I should be arrested, cuz ive used my boobs a time or two to get out of a ticket...men play a hell of a lot of headgames.. but women , honestly win the game,, because ultimately she has the goods ..and she knows how to work em.. whether to her benefit, or to hold them, and tease, and set herself up as a pristine goddess to torment...but some fellas like that too.. so see! shes always got the upper hand...

If someone is out alone, deliberately looking ahead or down, fully immersed in their own world, then approaching them at all is just another type of rape. Not a legally recognized one, but every bit as damaging and immoral.

We were all meant to function as individuals and to only care about our families and the friends we already have. If a woman by herself wanted others with her, she would have already brought her friends, family, or whatever lover she already has. So if you see someone alone, they value being alone and expect to be left alone. If they are not your friends or family, you have no right to even notice. Just say to yourself, they are JUST another person and move on. People are a dime a dozen and always in the way, but being alone, self-absorbed, in your own world and calling EVERY shot in your own life is priceless and should be protected under law.

Approaching you when you obviously want to be left alone, approaching you when they are from an inferior ethic culture or have lower values and standards than your own, is not a complement. It is a type of abuse. Maybe you don't find it abusive, or even enjoy it, but I do find it abusive. If men can be the authors of their own fates and have fulfilling, single lives, so should women. Women are not worth less than men. The more distance, privacy, and space you give others the more you are showing respect. And who gets the most emotional and physical space when walking alone on a public sidewalk? So which gender is respected more? It is not women.

From our exchanges, I see that the men won't get it until the women band together, learn not to tolerate this, and demand better treatment. Too many women have ridden on the gains made by the first and second wave feminists that they have taken it for granted and failed to be vigilant.

As the US immigration situation worsens, so will the way women are treated. Men from other countries think it is okay to rape women who are not covered up, rape women who are lesbians, grope any woman at random, sexually harass anyone, or hit on 10-year-old girls. They think it is okay to plop themselves into a booth in a restaurant where a woman is already sitting (I mean in parts of the US where that isn't an accepted custom - in big cities, that may be acceptable due to space constraints). Sure, born Americans do enough of these things, but exposure to feminism and US culture has placed some limits on their conduct. But when a bunch of new men from elsewhere flood in, they lack all that culture and training. I've seen too many Hispanic immigrants, mainly the undocumented variety who come here acting like every White woman is a sex worker.
