The wind blew me in a different direction and I have responsibilities and a family who relies on me to bring home the bacon. It's also very hard to get into with the start up costs and know how learning curve.

I might do something small when I retire. I also like the idea of a vineyard. F' who am I kidding ... I also like the idea of a lake house with a dock and a boat, when I retire.

Mittens , I hung around the farm grandad had till I went into the navy as I got drafted by the army , my Dad said join the navy you will always have a bed and he was in the navy when I was born , an always grandads was the first stop when I had leave time . I did over 30 yrs but the last 3 yrs I was stationed 45 miles from home so I lived off base . When grandad passed Mom said could I do both ? I said yes and did 3 more years doing both and that was 10 yrs ago . I loved the navy an my first 20 were adrenalin pumping days 365/24/7 . I watched the farm tech change an the last 10 yrs it has gone sky high tech and now 3 men can do more crops than 20 could when grandad was . I love my cows the most but cotton and corn are my best crops . I grow beans and rice just to rotate corn and cotton to since the others leave nutrients for each .Lots a long hot wet cold hrs but some of the best sun rises an sunsets and critters ya can see .
Very interesting. Thanks for serving. And that's great that you were able to do both. Yep the sun rises are the best.

I don't like to get out of bed in the morning super early, but when I do and am outside on my back porch, I wonder why I don't do it more often. Most beautiful time of day, IMO is when the sun is just rising.

I'm very sorry to hear that about your grandmother. I hope she still enjoys moments of happiness. I have always loved to sit and listen to older folks talk. I'm a history buff and our elders are living treasures.
And I'm sorry about that unpleasant family business. I've lived through that myself....I know the hurt of it.
She's very sad and scared. She's very sweet and dear to all of us. She's slowed down the past 6 years, but is still sharp as a tack.

My one aunt was b1tching about her even having the surgery, but the doctors recommended it, because she had an ulcer from the cancer in her stomach and was bleeding out. They had to giver her a whole bunch of transfusions. Even though they found out the cancer was worse once they opened her up, she likely would not have made it too much longer had they done nothing. With the surgery she has another good 8 months to a year the doctor said, but probably no more than that before things get bad again.:(

Yes, the family stuff is unpleasant, but my mom is strong. Her one sister is very close to her and supporting her, but is dealing with her own husband having a series of strokes over the past year (he was one of my favorite uncles ... I have spent lots of late nights in Vegas with him drinking cocktails and listening to stories (he used to be a businessman and belonged to the Chicago playboy club back in it's heyday ... his dad was in the mob and I guess had been shot ... I guess the outfit wanted him to run a casino out in Vegas, but he wasn't eligible because he was a known mobster ... we all always knew that about my uncle's dad, but I had no idea about all the stuff my uncle was telling me about himself one night in Vegas after a lot of drinks ... I don't think my uncle was in the mob (his dad told him he would break his knees if he ever got in it), but he knew all these mobsters (he was naming off names left and right, people I didn't know (I'm not familiar with that sort of stuff)... including the two brothers from Casino said the one played by Joe Peschi was an a-hole, but he and my aunt said it was too bad what happened to the other brother and they said he didn't deserve that ... He didn't say anything that would incriminate himself or make it sound like he was actually in it ... I think he just grew up with these guys and they did a lot of dinners and stuff as a group when he and my aunt were first married ... I couldn't believe the stuff he and my aunt were telling me ... I was absolutely shocked ... my parents didn't even know the stuff they were telling me ... they aren't the type to b.s., either).

So, yeah, it's been a bad year family health-wise.
