<quoted text> I ended up getting a nice federal and state tax credit for my solar water heater in my house ... around 3k total, I would say.
My system's total cost was a little more than 6k and the state tax credit was 35%, but it was capped at 1.4k, and the federal was 30%:

I didn't pay 3k for it. We just bought the house that we liked best and it happened to come with one. I would have bought the same house, regardless.

Furthermore, on top of saving money to heat my water, in part because of the solar heater, my home is an energy star home. So I pay a lower rate on my electricity than someone who lives in a home that is not an energy star home.

I'm easily saving 350-650 a year because of that and my solar water heater. Not too shabby, considering I would have bought the same house even if it were not an energy star home.

Is there a punch line?

I have the money for the car. The emergencies are not a problem, I don't own a house yet. I want to test drive a few before I make any kind of decision. I love a Lexus as well. lol

In reply to her post with the picture of Miley Cyrus (who was a child actor on Hannah Montana) at the MTV awards you said:
"I often consider posting some interesting thing (sic) or some detail about my life."
I was just making a joke that this interesting thing or detail was that like Miley Cyrus, you too were a child actor and in particular the robot girl from "small wonder," which was a tv show in the 80s.
The old saying applies, however. If you have to explain the joke, it's not funny.

Now you say you didn't pay 6k for it or 3k for it. The system just happened to be there when you bought the house you say? Fall off a truck? You're in hot water now counselor.
I hate to throw cold water or your understanding, but the builder installed it. If it is a brand new home, however, the person who buys the home is entitled to the tax credits.

It would be different if it were an older home and the previous owner had it installed ... then I would not be able to claim the credit. It can only be claimed once.

So due to some sad circumstances with which many of you are acquainted, I have some extra money. I'm debating on whether to buy the car I've always wanted and never could afford, a Prius.
Does anyone have any experience was said automobile or would a different fuel efficient car be better?
Sorry to hear of these sad circumstances...
:-(

I don't know squat about the Prius (only seen them on the road) but why not now get this car that you have always wanted and could never afford, Susan?
Put this extra money into something you want. Getting a new Prius will make you happy and that is what counts!

Hello Kid. My father, only 59, had a massive fatal heart attack. He left me some - actually quite a bit - of money because he knew I'd always wanted a different car than the one I could afford. You're right, if I buy the Prius I'll always think fondly of my father as I drive it.
