I believe they call those kind of bulbs CFLs... and they contain mercury in them (or at least the early versions did). Sorry to hear about your bird, Persephone. He sounds like he was very special.they aren't a cheap birds to purchase. I got mine from a friend who was dating a breeder. He was so sweet. Unfortunately a bulb broke in the area he was in, and I think that was it, poisoned him. One of those curly bulbs we're suppsed to use, can't think of what they are now. He was quite sweet, and would let himself out of this huge cage I bought just for him. I finally had to start putting the tiny locks on each of the sliding doors, there were three. He loved spaghetti sauce and ME, and he loved to fight with my cell phone. He was quite messy with his seed, but he never left his "presents" anywhere but his cage. Quite entertaining trying to get him down from the place I lived in when he was alive. It had vaulted ceilings. I have two keets now, and they're pretty entertaining, but not as smart as him.
Ding dong dash...hahaha...great pets if you are a bird lover, and I am glad the one that you have remaining is the friendly one. <quoted text>
