If I have sex with a total stranger, and thank her with a kiss and a handshake, that is a legal act. But if I say, that was great, here's a $20 .. then it's illegal... why?

Perhaps because the gov't can't tax it??

My parole officer once asked me if I was paying for sex I told him why should I pay for it when his wife gives it to me for free.....Apparently that's illegal too.....

I have to agree with you - because the gov't can't get any revenue from the "service" she provided. Maybe this is why pot is still illegal too!

???

The federal government taxes kisses and handshakes now?

Let's see...prostitution is illegal for a number of reasons...AIDS, violence, drugs, etc. I'm not sayin' that prostitution causes all those problems, but it certainly seems to me to abet them in some way, shape or fashion.

IMO only, I think prostitution should be legal but with lots of regulations to keep it safe. It is one of the oldest professions in the world.
There will always be prostitutes, and men who visit them.
I just think the government is looking at the morality of it,.... kinda like Bagheera said about pot. Pot may be a drug, but it's a natural herb. Sex is a natural function.

Not only men visit prostitutes. I was watching the travel channel once on older women, mostly ones who have been divorced or spouse is deceased, anyways these women are from Britain and go to Africa and hire a stud for the duration of their stays. The government does not like it, but the guys do, the money they make goes for an education and improvement of their lives, and they are checked on a regular basis for STD's, and live a good life. No one is hurt, made to suffer, or demeaned.
You would have to be awfully sheltered in life to think that only men go to whores.
It should be made legal, and being clean should come from them, not anyone else.
I mean who really cares the outcome of a whores life.

The problem is prostitutes are preyed on so easily, by abusive pimps, theives, rapists, killers. And they are afraid to go to the police for help because they will get in trouble for what they are doing. And society looks down on them so generally they feel afraid to turn to non-police sources for help. Alot of times they get into the life because the are teenage runaways from abusive and broken homes. They often get caught in a cycle of drug use and abusive relationships with pimps that like to keep them hooked on drugs in order to control them.

They usually are highschool dropouts with no chance to get decent paying jobs and they can make way more money turning tricks then they can working at some fast food restaurant. So many of them have babies to support and no man in sight to help. Its a depressing, dark and hard life that they have. Most of them don't have family ties, have no where to go. Its hard to help them because they move around so much and change their street names frequently. But when you get to know them-so many are truly beautiful people stuck in a situation that is totally out of their control. They are the victims that no one can reach.

What a lame excuse. And that is just what it is. Many kids choose to work in a fast food place as a start and do quite well, it is all in how one is raised. No one forced them to make the choice of making the big bucks the easy way. It is after all something they choose to do, even you say that in this post, by simply stating that rather than make money a decent hard working way, they CHOOSE prostition because it pays more. Their choice.

I am not sorry on how you feel. It is people like you that give these lame excuses, and think people should be forgiven when they make bad decisions.

Everyone makes bad decisions at some point in their lives. You have, I have, we all have. These kids mostly come from hellish home lives and have little or no love or parental guidence. They honestly have gone through things that the average person would never understand. If we want to stop prostitution, we have to understand why these people end up as sex workers. We can't solve a problem that we chose not to see or understand. Every single human life has value and is worthy of love, no matter what bad decisions they have made. Its something that society needs to remember-that no matter what lead them into this life that they have they are still in need of love and help. It doesn't mean I condone what they do, but I can tell you that I know many girls who got sucked into the life and some who got out. They are people like you or me.

I can tell most of you posters have never been overseas because when I went to Singapore the streetwalkers were all over and the pimps we very dangerous and armed guys and some of the girls and boys couldn’t have been over 13.
When you see what street walkers and their pimps do to a city I do think a rational person would not be in favor of it.
