Hey people. I thought this discusion would be both fun and useful.

I had a recent discussion with someone about the concept of living in another country if you have fixed income from your home country.

In other words, say you were retired and had a pension. It just barely got you by in the UK, USA, or Canada. There are people who say that if you move to some country, say in Central America, or the Azores or Canary Islands, that you can live there for much less after exchange of money. SO people are moving there at least for part of the year.

ALso, price of a condo is so cheap that you can buy a place and rent it out to travellers to pay the mortgage.

ALso, I heard that if you can have an exteneded holiday, say about 2 months, that you can stay in a place so cheaply that it alsmot pays for the fights.

Also, paying someone to clean and cook is dirt cheap. If you are more elderly or limited in mobility due to illness, care aids are cheap.

THe place would need to have enough english speaking to allow people to get around.

HAs anyone else heard about this?

SO, I thought it would be nice to fantasize, but also to exchange places we know that might fit this description.

ANy ideas???

The following links involve a system where you can swap residences with people from other parts of the country or other nations:

So many Brits are moving to France, especially
from London where the crime rate has soared out
of all proportion. Properties are comparitevly (sp) cheaper, and of course the weather is
a bonus.
Bulgaria is the latest "fad" and properties are
dirt cheap.
Spain has always been a popular country to retire
to, but a bit dodgy as far as land rights are
concerned, people buy a villa in extensive grounds, only to find those grounds are not legally theirs, and before they know it, other residences are built all around.
Pensions are transferable but on the down side,
increases do not come into effect once abroard.
