I was just reading from way over here..
I'd advise you to be very careful of the person
who is disabled, NO disrespect to him at all,
but your own health isn't good and you cannot
afford to take on anyone else's problems
just now, ads I see it;
you must be careful of stress and your mental health too..
I'm sorry you are getting hassle here
about how quickly or otherwise you
reply, by phone etc... surely 'the means of communication'
shouldn't be important,
it's more the fact that you're
looking for help which should be addressed and
treated seriously
and with a little more humanity.
Hi Grace!!! I remember you also. Been close to 2 years since having internet access. Glad to hear from you to. I went by the name Hoffmiester. Yes, I had enough of taking care of others, for now. That 88yt old senior-his nephew said I could move in. I knew what that means. A full time companion to relieve the nephew from his handling hid uncle. I asked what happens when the guy dies? Look gor a place to live again? He said I could stay till thr house is sold. Homes around here takes a year or more on average. So I would be having to find a place to live again. No thanks I said. Not enough stamina now at 58 to go all day. Ten years from now most likly would'nt be able to take care og myself and would need someone to do things for me. Probably look to being in a nursing home by age 65. State run facilities take S.S. & medicare. As you seen, some posters quite nasty in responce to a serious problem. They just take advantage to satisfy some sickminded need to verbal attacks. I did expect some seeing others seeking help on forums before. When a subject matter I don't like I just avoid it. Simple. So they just have a sick need to insult. Anyway, thank you for responding. Always a pleasure to converse.

She was greatly angered the rrst of family did nothing. And I was the one she did least for. So glad you found me!! You are one of the few blessings in my life. It is scary to be facing homelessness. All the hard work I done since age 18 to have my own home. Seems like it was all for nothing. However,as you stated, going on a forum was beneficial and still in awe that you seen it and entered! You gave me that encouragement to keep trying. The others on here that are expressing hate shows why society is in its current state. Sad that I see so many lacking humanity and far from being civilized. Here I see only a few "roses in a garden of weeds". You being one of those roses.
Hi...and thank you for such a wonderful accolade...that is so kind.
Well, to tell you the truth, our lives have run parallel in some respects, to look after my Mum was the reason I came back from the USA..apart from my youngest brother, help was very thin on the ground from our other siblings, so I fully understand. Believe me,
I can relate to the situation you find yourself in right now, you will forgive me if I say 'the only way is up'...:) but that's the truth and we have to get you a decent place to live so you can take care of your health and have some peace of mind.
Anybody I can contact for you? Seems an imposition considering the distance apart, but distance is no object on the Internet.
I am sure you are now going in the right direction to get your life back on track....one step at a time. It can be done....
I sincerely hope you make some progress today, take care.

Yes I see where you had similar difficulties. And that's when a person understands how it is. I come across a few where family won't help out their own parents. So how did it all turn out? I don't know who/what to contact from this point. A recent local TV station- PBS-aired a show on housing shortage for low income people. Very high in the number of people in need, sad to say. If I do see something, I"ll let you know. The outreaching you done is wonderful. Just that alone is helpful for comfort. That link you posted seems the best option. Only 2 in this town and many here just getting by. I assume it will take time to address my application. Hopefully before I'm homeless.

With regard to the food situation...trying to have enough money to feed yourself, how about going to soup kitchens or food banks? Maybe grow a garden? Seeds are cheap, the rewards are great, and you could work on a garden at your leasure. Canning, freezing etc any excess foods for later use? Can you hunt? Fish?

Buy foods in bulk and make large meals, freezing some for another day. It's cheaper to buy in bulk.

Just a bunch of thoughts....

Paying for a place to live- biggest expense. That takes 2/3 my income. There's food given from a truck at a chur h. But have to cook those foods. That's ulility costs. Then getting to & from that location. Physical limits restricts distance and standing time. Especially in winter-8 months of the year here get hypothermic fast. So need food sourse nearby. As I have now. The closest is half mile. Not all plaves have land to grow those cheap seeds. Besides having to wait for it to grow before eating. Where I am now unruly kids about would ruin a garden. And it would have to be large enough to feed one person. Canning and freezing also takes money. As I said, refridgerator off so I can have heat. When warm enough and no heat needed than refridgerator goes back on. The cheapest apt is $605/ month.$300 left for the rest of the month.$9/ day for food and electric. So to have food that's given about half is needing refridgeration. Been using the outdoors to keep some of my food. Now not cool enough to keep it outdoors. Around here just one hoagie/steak is $7. To gey to my doctor-$8 round trip for 2 buses it take to get there then home.$2. for medications. So ouy of that $300 left is transportation and prescription monthly. You can also count on rising apt rent.

Also need first month rent/security and trying to save up for that taking too long with what is left. About $2,000 needed to move. At that rate I'll be homeless before enough saved. However a link was provided by a dear friend here for rent asisstance. I applied a few days ago. If that comes through in time I'll be able to survive.

A steak sounds expensive, like you say,
but,

why not go vegetarian?

MUCH cheaper.. I find..

I am a natural vegetarian
& don't have to cut corners financially,
but noticed how economcal it is to get a load of veggies
cook them with potatos, for very little..
[lasts ad few days]
+ it's good pure nourishing food.

Thanks. As for food, many foreigners moved in and have buisnesses. I use to go to a buffet. All you can eat for $10. Closed now. What opened is another buffet.$26.50 for all you can eat. Got a dinner yesterday-veggie dinner.$13 and was so small! I won't order from there again. Not a large vegetable choice with what these people around hete eat. Lots of the same limited choices. To go veggie I hear one needs a variety enough to get necessary nutrition. One of the reasons I no longer want to live here. Lousy food choices. Was very good here for groceries. Did well with food from the Dollar Tree store. Gone. Replaced with higher price stores and what's crazy is this is a low income area.

I popped in last night but you was in conversation so I stayed
in the wings...Good Morning my friend...
Low income areas seem to be the sort those foreign food merchants
target, it's the same over here. Gotta get you cookin'..lol.
Pasta is nutritious and doesn't eat away at the electricity, some
good lean minced meat, sliced onion, a jar of Dolmio, et Voila, most nutritious and filling. Cauliflour cheese? Plus the carbs will give you the energy you need. Wish I could get some good multi-vitamin tablets to you, to tide you over...I will with pleasure if you can find some way of letting me have your address. If overstepping here, please let me know.
You asked how things worked out for me. Eventually it did work out quite satisfactorily, but not overnight, a few glitches on the way, but I got there! A safe area is all important. I am guessing that along with so many other places, where you live was once a nice area?
Have a good day this Sunday and let us hope that this coming week will bring good news. Ciao!...:)

I do eat pasta. True it is good to eat and low cost to prepare. As with mashed potato flakes. Can ad various ingredients. Last night added roast beef from a can, into the mash potatoes. Other times its grated cheese, tomatoes, corn. My usual way of eating. Canned tuna, chicken, vegetables also from a low price store. Like you discovered, glitches along the way to living within your means.. It use to be a nice place to live. All this could have gone much better IF family was supportive. Same with the various agencies I contacted. Just late afternoon yesterday political reps in the neighborhood gor an upcomming election on 5-21-13 and I told them if the problems with safty and my situation. They said I should be able to get that help. Asked me to talk to them later. Like I done this before. Nothing. I been condensing what I posted. Too long to go into the road that got me here. If you want, my email is danstreker1701@gmail.com. Again bless you for your help. NOT SEEKING FINANCIAL AIDE!! Seeking guidance/ those who gone through it or know someone who did- still in a difficult time.

90% of home ownership in this town became rentals. Drastic change here. Lots if section 8ers. They know how to work the system. They get food stamps while renting a home and one or more vehicles! The house 4 doors away, the rent alone is $900. The landlord offered to buy the house I'm in. Trouble is I don't own it. The bank wants $52,000 up front then negoitate the other $6,000. The house worth about $45,000. So he did'nt buy it. Anyway the other neighbors get food stamps, has a daughter living there. Both have cars. Just like most others living here. A few do go to work. Sharing a place to live is another option. My neighbor 3 doors away asked me to move in. She's on anti-depressants/ anxiety. Sleep walks. Has no organizational skills, dirty habits, forgets to pay bills and het daughters filed abuse reports on her and she has 2 screaming parrots. The other is a guy my age. Has many ailments also. Has a pain relieving device into his side. Causes him slurred speech. Difficult to understand when he talks. Has a woman friend and I winder why they don't share an apartment. Those are the only offers I have for sharing expenses. Srems like most around here are either taling illegal drugs or physch meds. I affectionately call this area "The toilet bowl" becsuse og what moved into thid open- bowl shaped neighborhood.

In my state, there is subsidized housing programs available to those on SSI/SSD, where rent for those eligible. is $100-200 a month. Check with your local Human Services/Resources department. They may not be able to help you save your home, but they'll be able to help you rent a safe, affordable place to live. There may be a waiting list so I urge you to call tomorrow and get the ball rolling. I wish you the very best of luck. Take care.

That I done a few years ago. The only 2 available was in high crime areas which I recently posted. My mother very upset of me leaving. Cried over it. When she reassured me that one of my brothers would take me in their homes, I stayed with her. When she died, I was forgotten. Basically how I'm in this position now. She died 17 months ago. I don't have the time for an opening for subdidized housing. I trusted my mother that I would have family to live with.

And various public forums, the least of which you spen the majority of your time on is "Offbeat."

What government agencies?

How are things progressing with your applications
this morning..have you had any news as yet?
Speaking from experience you cannot sit back on your laurels, keep at them and they should appreciate the sense of urgency about your situation.
You say you applied for subsidised housing a few years ago...things may well have changed by now and they could have properties available elsewhere...do give it a go, it's worth a try.
I am not able to contact you via e-mail but can through the Topix messaging system...my husband has given me the thumbs up to do that!...:)
As we had a family member with whom we had lost touch, found himself in a similar position that you are in, we more than understand, and like I said, if there is anybody I can get in touch with....
I shouldn't say but will reveal no names, I was able to arrange for food stamps from here in the UK for a friend in the USA..just took a 'phone call. She was in hospital at the time.
Hope this finds you having a good day healthwise and are motivated to try to get yourself sorted.
