"Should the Democrats do more to reach white rural voters?"

Of course they should (and will).

They should do everything they can to impoverish rural voters the way they have inner-city blacks.

The more dependent on government the Democrats can get people, the more they can depend on their votes.

Actually, they won't have to - the Republicans will literally alienate 51% of the voting population of the United States by 2016.

No, not by themselves. They will have the unwavering and dedicated assistance of ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN and the NY Times.

Morning Captn,

PPL can see for themselves whats going on in the Rep. party. They are a hot mess just chasing their tails around. And the comments made by some of them is just plain nuts!!

Their goal and their mission is to do anything they can against Obama as they have done since day one. They claim their focus is on the economy. But EVERYTHING is about trying to get Obama impeached.

So, reading back, just about everyone on here agrees with limiting late term abortions, yet when the Reps try to do just that they are demonized as anti-women... how odd.

There's more to that story and you know it. Their goal and what they are trying to do now is to close every Plan Parenthood, to overturn Roe vs Wade. And we all know that.

It's doesn't matter how far along a woman is, they are Pro Life which mean NO abortions..

You know I'm not going to fight with YOU about this because I Wub U my friend..

You're an R, I know this as you know I'm an I...we think differently about politics.

I'm not going to risk a friendship with someone I've talked with for a long time over politics...

That's mostly due to the I e'R S targeting scandal. As soon as that fades Matthews will re-find his tingling leg.

Cappy doesn't want to live in a country where they ask...questions! Oh for the trusted days of Bush where, if you were a church or a political action committee you just told the IRS that and they said: "OK". Now, under "Oblammerrammer" the IRS asks: "Are you sure about that?" Oh, the inhumanity!

The problem is that the republicans are obsessed about the issue and many women see that and they just completely tune them out. It's also a complete waste of time. Why even vote on a bill that stands no chance in hell of becoming law and can only serve to alienate a key voting constituency.
Many women see that and they think to hell with them. Once that happens it really doesn't matter what else they stand when it comes to these women. Couple that with their flippant attitude towards the environment, and their message about fiscal sustainability and fiscal responsibility is completely drowned out.
Couple all that with the fact that they seemed to give short shrift to the notion of fiscal responsibility when Bush was in power, and it's easy for folks to criticize the party and be cynical about the party. There is plenty of things to criticize.
They really need to figure out what they want to be and what they want their primary message to be and if that's fiscal responsibility (which IMO it should be ... we are a much stronger nation with less debt and everyone will benefit ... to the extent we pay interest on debt that is money that could be spent elsewhere, including on social programs ... it's also something most folks, to the left and the right can agree about, at least in theory), first they need to be true to it, e.g. don't go on binge spending sprees when they are calling the shots like they did when Bush was in power, second they need to be fair about it, e.g. they can't refuse to budge when it comes to stupid tax breaks for oil companies that does nothing to benefit society at large and only serves to help their bottom line, for example, while cutting welfare spending) and thirdly they need to stop with distractions and pushing secondary issues that alienate key voting groups and thus detract from their ability to achieve their primary goal.
Fiscal mismanagement is the biggest threat facing our country and historically it is what has brought most former great powers to their knees. That should be the republican mantra, but they need to be responsible about it.
Down by me, the republicans gained control of the county commission ... they gave schools their 1st funding increase in 5 years (something the previously democrat controlled county commission could not do in 5 years), they gave county employees their first raise in 5 years(something the previously democrat controlled county commission could not do in 5 years), AND they cut county property taxes by about 25%. That's what I'm talking about. That's good responsible government. That's not saying f' the schools, f' the folks who serve the public ... they don't ever need a raise (they have families too and their cost of living has gone up too) and lets go all in for tax breaks...
To me,^^^^^ that's much better than that stupid constitutional amendment passed in my state to outlaw gay marriage, which is an embarrassment, IMO.
The religious right likely provides falf of all GOP support and they vote overwhelmingly GOP. I would guess that The religious right would be more likely to vote against their economic best interests in favor of their moral beliefs than the more well to do women would vote against their economic well-being in order to sopport an abortion rights candidate. It is very simple> The GOP stands to lose more of the religious right vote than they would gain from the secular female vote by supporting abortion rights.
