I too agree with what you say to a large extent.
When discussing the issue, tho, you have to choose your words carefully and be careful not to come off as labeling every one. So, I like to look at from a statistical stand point and say that if you are black you are more likely to do X (say not graduate high school) or less likely to do Y (say be born into wedlock) compared to other racial groups… because it’s all probabilities, but we need to be mindful that people are individuals, even in the community they reside.
So, I think we need to be careful when we use terms like “black community” because the community is really composed of individuals and the statistics associated with black folks as community (when you lump them all together) do not apply to every individual who is black. You really need to treat folks as individuals and not approach them with pre-conceived notions, i.e. stereotype them.
I think without a doubt the community has far less folks who can identify with the “pull yourself back up by the boot straps” mentality, as you say. Without a doubt, that mentality of perseverance was much more common in the past.
The notary public for my refinance was a southern black lady in her 70s, I would guess. We closed at my house. She was so sweet and grandmotherly. She told my wife and I so many good stories, just like my grandmother used to tell me. Mostly they were about educated black men, who wrote books, preachers, men of distinction. Her mom even went to college at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, which must have been almost unheard of in those days. It was a real pleasure to meet her and I don’t think I’ll ever forget the morning we spent together.
It occurred to me that the far too many in the community have lost the ideals of folks like her and her parents. I honestly think that is where the problem is, i.e. at the individual level and individual family values. I think if more folks in the community shared those values, there is absolutely no reason why as a community black folks would not be doing as well as those of other racial groups when we look at statistics.
In a sense tho, how you change that is a much tougher nut to crack, than just throwing more money at them in the form of welfare programs. As I said to Arctic a few times, throwing money at folks via welfare programs just allows them to survive, much like giving food to folks suffering famine in Africa just allows them to survive. If you really wish to solve any problem, you have to identify and target the causes of the problem, not just treat the symptoms of it.
We don't direct much of any effort towards treating the causes of poverty. We need much more effort in this regard, but instead of doing this, over the last 50 years we seem to be just throwing more and more money treating the symptoms of it, and it has done nothing to reduce poverty … in fact it seems to have only increased it.
Lol thanks for that advice. However, being that I am close to the black community, blacks do like to refer to "the community" and it usually doesn't come off offensive to them (us). But yes, not all...some..that goes to the points I've made before. Well now that you brought those points up, maybe the last generation dropped the ball. There's too many leaning towards leaders outside of their homes instead of within. My household was never like that. We weren't allowed to watch television except for maybe 2 hours per week. We were ordered to read and recite what we've read and have open discussions.

If you think I would ever give a f' what some dork who creames his pants cause he gets so excited from collecting topix points thinks of me, not only are you one of the biggest tools, I've ever run across, but you are a delusional one at that, chihuahua.

Who knows, tho, maybe if you get enough worthless topix points, topix will reward you, make it official, and pay for you to get a tattoo of an "L" on your forehead.

If you don't change your ways, you are gonna be a virgin for life. If you wanna increase your odds of ever getting laid, maybe take up stamp collecting instead.

Hope this helps!

Aw... An actual "tough guy" wouldn't waste the ~1,000 words above, replying to a dork, pookie. I get it, your posts here are emotive, needy, whiny, windy. You really need other folks' attention here.

You're a spineless little guy who hides behind a screen and bravely calls women here "biotch". Nothing dorky about that, huh, puddin? You're also a fraud and a phony, with that "Sublime" screen name.

sub·lime (s-blm)
adj.
1. Characterized by nobility; majestic.
2.
a. Of high spiritual, moral, or intellectual worth.
b. Not to be excelled; supreme.
3. Inspiring awe; impressive.
4. Archaic Raised aloft; set high.
5. Obsolete Of lofty appearance or bearing; haughty: "not terrible,/That I should fear .../But solemn and sublime" (John Milton).

What's noble; majestic; of high spiritual, moral or intellectual or intellectual worth; supreme; awe inspiring or impressive about you, a juvenile who calls women "biotch"? Take your time, we'll wait.

I'd suggest you take care on who you call a "biotch" in the future, slinky boy. The poster you labeled could probably hand you your azz, if she chose to. She just might pity you as much as I do.:(

Thanks for your fairly disturbing intense interest in my love life. I learned in College that guys who didn't demean and name-call women and who showed them the respect they deserved would do fine!

Dude, if you don’t think some grown adult man, getting so giddy about collecting topix points is odd, strange, and highly dorky, I dunno what to tell you. This should be self-evident. If you had any friends IRL, you could ask them (if you do so I HIGHLY recommend, you do the old ... I have this "friend" who acts like a 13 year old girl on topix, just to save face), and they’d tell you. It’s not just me. It would be one thing if you were a girl or in junior high.

Maybe it’s cause my idea of a good time is riding my Harley, driving my boat and being out on the lake, being a dad and husband (you wouldn't know what these are like, tho, cause no woman would marry you, much less breed with you), and a good party every now and then, but I would seriously wanna off myself if my life were so pathetic that I was all “tee hee hee, I got some topix points, yay, yay, yah … I’m jumping up and down … yay, topix points, points, and more points … I’m awesomth, Chillith J, the mack daddyth … ladiesth just loveth guys liketh me … I learned that in collegeth!!”

When it comes to women, I would take advice from Stever Urkle before I take advice from you.

I also don’t care how tough OC is. I have no plans on fighting anyone on topix, much less 50 or 60 year old ladies (you do well with that demographic, I see, you little stud muffin). It’s juvenile of you to even bring it up. That’s almost as cool getting off while collecting topix points, tee hee hee.

I bet you learned that in college too … that women like to be told how tough, rough, tumble, and manly they are. What a lady's man you are! <rolls eyes>

I learned that dorks like you never get any action. You try too hard and think if you kiss enough a$s they might take pity on you. You also act like a little girl. You’re also uninteresting, as evidence by scoring topix points being the highlight of your day. I dunno even know what ya look like (I can only imagine, lmao), but I don’t have to, the decks already stacked against you so bad.

Listen, Pee Wee Herman, you have NO love life for me to be interested in. No woman would wanna date, much less sleep with, some grown man who acts like a 13 year old girl and is all “tee hee hee” over topix points, unless that’s all she could get. Hear that sound … do you … that’s the sound of reality smacking you upside the face??! The only thing that keeps you from realizing how bad it sux to be you, is the fact that ignorance is bliss.

At a certain point in time, you need to stop pointing the finger at everyone else and point it at yourself.
Not...in...this...country.

Millions of Kurds were killed too.

But...not...in...this...countr y.

Millions of Polish immigrants were killed.

But...not...in...this...countr y.

I think you need to stay on Topic - at least doing so in 50 words or less.

Jews were never persecuted in the United States.

Maybe you should use a little more words and explain why it should matter so much more to an individual that their grandparent or great grandparent were persecuted in this country verses in another country, long before this individual was even born. Sounds rather remote in either case and if you are blaming the fact that you are a loser on shyte that happened to your grandparent or great grandparent before you were even born, you are just making excuses and ones without merit at that.

Makes perfect sense to anyone with any reading comprehension ability...

Again, please explain why it should matter where one's grandparent or great grandparent were persecuted.

You seem to think it matters so much that certain folks ancestors were persecuted here, long before they were even born, such as to justify large segments of their community being completely unproductive members of society.

When I mention that Jews were treated much worse and subject to genocide, you say oh, that doesn't matter because that didn't happen here, notwithstanding the fact that many who survived the holocaust immigrated here afterwards. Why should it matter so much where one's ancestors were mistreated? You seem to think where the persecution happened is soooo important, but haven't even bothered to explain why this is the case.
