Now over a month later, she's still going on and on about how I called her a b1tch cause I didn't like her views, when only an idiot would think that.

Yeah, I would run and hide too. Tell your momma I said hi.
I have no reason to run and hide from you, puddin! I have more profitable things to do than banter with the mentally defenseless! I'm going to go do something else and go back to ignoring you now! Can you handle that, needy little guy?

Well.......we can only hope.
Some stats came out yesterday about WV voters.
As it turns out less than 25% of 18-25 yr olds
actually came out to vote.
They are going to have to do better if they want
a say in how our country is run.
True very true, there are lawsuits in Ohio already and I heard in Tx to overturn the Supreme Courts Ruling...

YOU'RE GIVING ME A HEADACHE!!!
Simmer down, spaz. You don't need to yell.

I'd say if you only let it go days ago, which means you stewed over it for over a month, you are the one who needs work on letting shyte go before it eats you up. I also wouldn't worry about anything said between you and me ever eating me up.

Nevertheless, I agree, let's leave your misunderstandings in the past. I tire of your drivel on the subject and you're continuous playing the "I'm a helpless woman ... somebody save me from this mean man" card. Sheesh.

Sublime1,

You have made some very valid points that I agree with to the fullest. I am 1/8 African American but still consider myself a minority regardless. However, I will say it....blacks today make too many excuses. It's just laziness and wanting too much for nothing. The blacks of my parents generation were doing much better even during harsher time (civil rights era when they weren't even considered human beings in this country). They had a greater sense of pride and the will to unite. I don't know what happened between that time and today in 2013. And you are correct when you say many blacks don't consider Obama a "real black" because he doesn't have the slave mentality. He is not a slave descendant and that's what blacks don't understand. Of course because one of his parents are black/African he do feel somewhat of a connection to the AA community but overall he doesn't fully understand the AA community because he always worked hard (I know...a lowblow but I'm a realist), he knew what it was to pull yourself back up by the boot straps, etc. The black community can not stand him in reality even the ones who voted for Obama. The black community have what we call a crab in the barrel type of mindset. When one crab reaches his way to the top, the other crabs at the bottom will always strive to pull the one on top right back down. That's the black community. It's a sick twisted illness. I have been ridiculed because I am "not black enough." I know Obama must have experience this with blacks growing up. There is no way he didn't at least on a small level. But the conversation seemed to have run off into a different topic in this thread. I wish the AA community would stop whining and just start doing. There is NO excuse in 2013 why you still don't have a job and still whining about raparations, etc. Get over it and move on. I do think a part of the problem is 'white guilt'...actually it's a major part of the problem. Too many whites having 'white guilt' and I wish they'd stop it.

I too agree with what you say to a large extent.

When discussing the issue, tho, you have to choose your words carefully and be careful not to come off as labeling every one. So, I like to look at from a statistical stand point and say that if you are black you are more likely to do X (say not graduate high school) or less likely to do Y (say be born into wedlock) compared to other racial groups… because it’s all probabilities, but we need to be mindful that people are individuals, even in the community they reside.

So, I think we need to be careful when we use terms like “black community” because the community is really composed of individuals and the statistics associated with black folks as community (when you lump them all together) do not apply to every individual who is black. You really need to treat folks as individuals and not approach them with pre-conceived notions, i.e. stereotype them.

I think without a doubt the community has far less folks who can identify with the “pull yourself back up by the boot straps” mentality, as you say. Without a doubt, that mentality of perseverance was much more common in the past.

The notary public for my refinance was a southern black lady in her 70s, I would guess. We closed at my house. She was so sweet and grandmotherly. She told my wife and I so many good stories, just like my grandmother used to tell me. Mostly they were about educated black men, who wrote books, preachers, men of distinction. Her mom even went to college at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, which must have been almost unheard of in those days. It was a real pleasure to meet her and I don’t think I’ll ever forget the morning we spent together.

It occurred to me that the far too many in the community have lost the ideals of folks like her and her parents. I honestly think that is where the problem is, i.e. at the individual level and individual family values. I think if more folks in the community shared those values, there is absolutely no reason why as a community black folks would not be doing as well as those of other racial groups when we look at statistics.

In a sense tho, how you change that is a much tougher nut to crack, than just throwing more money at them in the form of welfare programs. As I said to Arctic a few times, throwing money at folks via welfare programs just allows them to survive, much like giving food to folks suffering famine in Africa just allows them to survive. If you really wish to solve any problem, you have to identify and target the causes of the problem, not just treat the symptoms of it.

We don't direct much of any effort towards treating the causes of poverty. We need much more effort in this regard, but instead of doing this, over the last 50 years we seem to be just throwing more and more money treating the symptoms of it, and it has done nothing to reduce poverty … in fact it seems to have only increased it.
