I saw that on the TV news Denny!
There seemed to be a 'grab all' of different items!

and it mentioned something
about saving THANKSGIVING, in ..
not having the the ever commercial 'black Friday' so close to the
family 'Thanksgiving'.

What's your opinion about that?

Hope you are well & keeping warm this cold weather.

Again apologies for the rushed # 19088.
so many typos!

I REALLY found that news item very
disturbing, and I agree with the woman
who spoke up outside the court...
as she said WHAT message does it give out
to others when someone gets off almost
scot free for allowing gross cruelty
to an animal..

There is simply NO excuse for that - none.

I'm off out again now -
invited to a party..
and it's a night I'd FAR RATHER
sit in, O well,
can't have life all our own way either.

El,
Time to batten down the hatches,
I saw where, the gales & rain which hit
the UK last night are to come your way
overnight!

I know! I know!

ha ha!

I like to be the bringer of good news at times(:!!!!!

Just caught this....hope I'm in time to wish you a lovely
evening Grace...

I saw that about the elephant on Sky News...I was going to turn away
but watched in sheer disbelief, one word to describe that person,
one which I won't use here. The only good thing there is that the
elephant is now being cared for, and is happy, at a sanctuary.

Well thank goodness we didn't go to the cinema yesterday, the A55 which
we would have travelled on, was flooded and motorists were stranded.
The cwms have overflowed and water come gushing down the mountains, you may have seen it on Sky News, flash floods, it's unbelievable! More tomorrow you say, oh how nice!...(:

I caught you in the corner of my eye as I was leaving earlier Paise,
but had the oven on.

Been meaning to ask you...is this the right time to cxut a branch off
a tree? There is nothing wrong with it apart from small garden and it is
growing right over the patio. I remember there is a knack to cutting which I applied last time but have forgotten.

Hi Denny...they used to have the 'Sales' in the big stores in England
on Boxing Day....people would queue all night to get the bargain they
saw in the window...but nowadays there are sales all the time, discounts here and discounts there. The latest gimmick is 'cash-back'....

I hope they show that film at Christmas, it's ages since I saw
it, that and The Little Snowman are all time favourites of mine.
I forgot you lived in Jersey so you know all about Macy's & Miracle on 34th Street. When I was kid we always went downtown to see the windows at all the big department stores. Sad that they don't decorate them much anymore.

Good and fine Friday wishes Kitchen-eers.

After a warm 65F high temp on Thanksgiving Day, my part of the world starts a steep slide to pre-winter clime (by calendar). This day finds the temp dropping as time ticks -- blustery gusts prevail. Days when the temps fall instead of increasing ... well, it just ain't right!!

Tomorrow and several subsequent days hovering above and below 40F with a "wintery mix" forecast for Monday and/or Tuesday.

My darling daughter has scheduled a wedding dress fitting (the big day is next September) for late afternoon on this Black Friday, with a travel of approx. 50 miles involving parts of two cities' shopping areas. I'm to be part of the retinue for the occasion.

I'm doomed.:)

<quoted text>My parade appreciation diminished greatly by the time I was 12-13 too. But in later years, would view with my girl friends then a wife (either/or).

Before CBS went to soley broadcasting the Thanksgiving Day Parade in NYC, they would have coverage of at least 3 parades (4?)-- with time for Philadelphia promoting Wanamaker's dept. store and Detroit promoting Hudson's dept. store. I can't remember if Chicago was in the mix. I guess that would be promoted by Marshall Field's back then, right?

NBC network must have the rights to call their time "Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade". I didn't care for all of the time devoted to performances in front of Macy's Dept. Store, instead of more of the parade.
The last few years there's a big lighting celebration & parade on Michigan Avenue the weekend before Thanksgiving. I got stuck in traffic one when I had other plans with a friend.

The commercialization has gotten out of hand and taken the fun out of it.

In reply to El and RM's posts,

Yes to a certain degree,

and we all do 'our bit' in different ways,
and not always in the spotlight..
and indeed that is welcome..

but, at Christmas time, at least it seems to me,
there is 'over kill'
Santa appearing everywhere,
visiting hospitals with a sackful of
toys, kind of superficial,
but then again,

if one sees it through a child's eyes,
it can be altogether different,

perhaps, through a child's eyes,

'I remember when I was 4 and ill in hospital
and Santa came to visit me'

and that is a very lovely memory to hold on to.

El,
I was chuffed with your line about
'no turkey for Christmas'
what a blessed thought.
Overkill is an understatement. I spent 4 years working for Macy's. Christmas started in July and by the time December 25 came I was sick of it. This Black Friday business in the US has really gotten crazy --- stores open on Thanksgiving Day and then overnight? Why would anyone want to go shopping at midnight ...... on Thanksgiving !?

No, and didn't see Father of the Bride 2, too.

Without an occasion to view with daughter(s) or a S/O to enjoy their company, I don't tend to view theatrical movies "of that kind". Would rather view documentaries that include these special moments of real families.

But I do have a cOLoR Tv!!

Not your fault, lol. I installed a firewall and since then it has been downhill.
Not only your links are enjoyed Cuz Luke, but your company.....
Pitch black here now, but a clear sky and an almost full moon...in for a frosty night. Cosy enough indoors, am about to start dinner now, or tea as we called it in Lancashire. We were late in getting a tv period, all the girls at school would be singing the jingles...except for me...awwww! Any big events we would listen to on the radio, or in the case of when I was on the telly, we watched at a neighbours...highly embarrassing! haha
Have a nice weekend Cuz Luke...
Nice weekend Everyone....stay safe.
Thank you,{{{ Cuz El }}} and wishing a fine weekend for you as well!

Night here was near same but no frost because the breeze didn't abate enough.'Twas clear and looked like a 3-quarter moon of adequate brightness to pierce the blackness a bit.

My late afternoon and evening was non-routine. There was a trek to the bridal shoppe, nabbing my youngest daughter as a passenger along the way because she is adamant about being early or on-time for appointments and thought the sister/to-be bride was going to be late.

Viewing the trying-on and judging of two wedding dress options with 2 bride's maids (one being the youngest daughter) and their mother, my 'ex', and being asked for my assessment of the two options and accessories.

Trying to mentally find a hide-hole during price-haggling with the process of playing two shops against the other. I had found out that the reason we had this appointment was that the shop at the distance had the dresses in stock; whereas, the one "in the neighborhood" didn't.

Having a meal all-together at a restaurant in that locale before we made the trek back to our respective homes.

An interestingly special evening for sure!

I also lived in New York City...W23rd St. Macy's windows were
spectacular. I never saw a Thanksgiving Parade, simple reason,
no one told me they held them, so I went back to NJ for Thanksgiving
to hostess the dinner.(:....

'Morning {{{Cuz Luke}}}
Yesterday was the calm before the storm...dry overnight with a very heavy frost, have put a higher tog rating duvet on my bed for tonight!
Just got back from a flying visit to the shops for bird food and a few
bits and bobs before the rain started, the road was under water the
other day but they have been along and cleaned up all the debris.
Yesterday sounds as though it was rather hectic, but satisfying..and so
nice that you can all come together at this special time in your
daughter's life. How exciting to be choosing a wedding dress, oh how
I would have loved a daughter!
Welp, it has gone dark as I 'speak'...half past four already and lots
of little mouths to feed, then settling down for a couple of 'shows'
on the tv...there is one chat show of sorts I really enjoy, The Graham
Norton show, he is incredibly funny and has the most interesting guests, so have that recorded to watch....
TTFN..

Good evening El!
So I saw on the news Thanksgiving morning, folks were already in line outside of electronics stores, and department stores, wanting to be first in the door when they opened at midnight. Many had their children with them.
My opinion of that is it's DISGUSTING.
Talk about idol worship; sacrificing the precious elements of good times, bonding, laughter with our loved ones; for THINGS. How dear is that flat screen gonna be to the children who spent their holiday in line on a cold sidewalk?
Maybe all don't see family gatherings as I do. I have a large family who's elected to stay in this cold northern city in order to be near to family. Our get togethers are the highlights of the year to most of us. It gave me pause when the stores began opening at midnight on Thanksgiving, but that wasn't good enough for the retailers, this year many had 'pre-midnight' openings and special sales. But it wouldn't work for them if folks didn't have the skewed priorities that took them out of their family holiday and to the sales.
I went ONE year for my mother who really wanted a sewing machine that was less than half normal price. Folks generally hostile, looking at each other as competitors, NOT the spirit of Christmas at all.
Black Friday is also a myth. The facts are that right before Christmas the prices are even lower than Black Friday and after Christmas comes the best deals of all.
I hate it, can you tell? lol
