The loss of your child and wife
must have been devastating;

many years ago.
You have chosen to be unnecessarily
aggressive & rude to me for the last time.
I will not address you or your posts again.
May you continue to have good health.

Happeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee FRYday, everyone! Brought my car into the dealership for some work (A leak, transmission flush) and had to take the shuttle back. Of course you never get home right away. You have to wait for the half dozen people ahead of you to be driven home first so you get the sight seeing tour. You can live 15 minutes away but it will take you hours, wondering if you will even get home alive again.I am waiting for a call to pick it up and YES, have to call the shuttle AGAIN. I hope they arrive here in time for me to get to work tomorrow.MURPHY DOODLE went to the vet yesterday and is now 143 pounds. He needs to STOP growing or explode. Tally, how is everything? Hellooooooo Grace, Pretty Feet,(trying to see if I can remember the people who seemed to have died off.)

All the worry about my appointment at the dentists was unfounded....
had four Wisdom teeth removed in one this afternoon, no problems
although uncomfortable now due to feeling have returned.
Just thought I would give you an update!...:)
Had a skirmish with a holiday maker in the car park after my
minor surgery....will reveal all tomorrow,(having an early night)
but I forgot I was a 'lady' at one point, lol.
Sometimes you just gotta give back what you are handed!
And that brings me to you Sir Tally.
You have every right to speak your mind here or anywhere else,
no worries whatsoever, only incredibly sorry to hear of your
very sad loss of your son.
I will just say good night as I am shattered this evening....and see
you all tomorrow.

TO CORRECT AND ERRANT POST ...

the truth is ..........

ICU/Critical Care/Alcohol withdrawal danger after bypass surgery

Expert: Wesley - 12/12/2009

Question
My father is currently in ICU following open heart surgery to replace a valve and perform two bypasses. His surgery was five days ago. When he began coming out of the anesthesia he was extremely agitated. Only at that time, to my knowledge, did my step mother admit to the pulmonologist (sp), after being asked pointedly, that he has been drinking. My father is an alcoholic, apparently no longer a recovering alcoholic.

He has been sedated with adevan (sp) haldol (sp) and morphine via injection since the surgery. As of today (day five) he is on an intravenous drip of adevan to prevent the hills and valleys of the previous course of drugs. He is in a twilight type state, is still thrashing a bit and now has lung complications (he is also a smoker).

My concern is that I do not understand how he will move to the next level of recovery if constantly sedated, is the sedation inhibiting his lung recovery, is there danger of the failure of additional organs (liver, kidneys) as a result of continuous sedation, and is there danger of brain function impairment? I understand that sedation is necessary to prevent him from injuring himself or others....but very concerned about his outcome.

Answer
I'm sorry Missy, this is a unfair thing that your father has brought you all into.

Yes, being sedated all the time will affect his lungs, heart and brain.
This will greatly prolong any recovery time.
He will get pneumonia.
I hope he doesn't get any other kind of infection.

They will slowly wean his sedation, he will not wake up right away. Please be patient. It will be a while before he bounces back.

This seems kinda 'matter-of-fact' because it happens that often. You might (or might not) be surprised.

Numerous studies have been done related to surgery and the effects from alcohol and drinking. Many have reported that abstinence from alcohol and tobacco prior to surgery reduces the amount of postoperative complications. Heavy drinking and smoking can also lead to a higher chance of infection and other complications. The reason for this is that both alcohol and tobacco negatively affect the overall function of the body's organs. As a result, post-surgery, heavy drinkers and smokers have a greater chance of wound infection and cardiopulmonary complications.

Alcohol can, indeed, cause heart rhythm problems in people who drink too much or who are extra-sensitive to the effects of alcohol

Welcome back Grace. Glad you had a pleasureable break away..

Used 'skirmish' for want of a better word last night, in hindsight,
that was the least of my worries yesterday! It's the holiday
season and the tourists haven't got a minute.....simple as that.

Thanks for the thought (pampering) but hardly likely.....totally
unrealistic in my circumstances as a caregiver.

An article in today's paper caught my eye considering the recent
talk about defibrillators.

An elderly man of 77 suffered a brain tumour and was taken into
hospital where he was diagnosed and considered not to 'pull
through'(my words) and so he was left to pass away peacefully.
However, the defibrillator with which he had been fitted many
years prior had not been turned off by surgeons and so each time
his heart stopped it sprung into action, so for two days he was
subjected to 200 electric shocks. It was only discovered when
a family member, his son-in-law from memory, held his hand
and received a shock himself through his father-in-law.
It was then turned off and the gent passed away but a few hours
later.
