Hats off to the fine actions of the English WW11 Veteran of 89 yrs.who
had the tenacity to make his own way to the D-Day commemorations held in Normandy, France to join surviving comrades in making the
70th anniversary of D-Day, 6th June, 1944.

The BULLDOG BREED is alive and well.

All credit to the care home for encouraging the residents to keep their
independence, yet part of that responsibility should, imo, have been
to ensure that the Veteran's needs be met in having him escorted
to France in a proper manner. As it turned out, he had the fortitude
to get there safely and as we say often here, KUDOS.
He is a fine example to the young. Brave to the end.

You surprise me Grace with this statement.

You can say in one breath 'three cheers' or whatever, to Vee,
for making the effort in going to the library of a Friday to use
their computers...

Which I do not dispute.

Yet this remarkable journey by a man determined to make a
last stand as it were, is not so gallant in your eyes.

"carers have HUGE responsibility"

as such....I would consider part of my duty would have been to
ensure his needs were met in this respect. Sadly lacking in that
respect. It's actually a disgrace he had to find his own way to
pay his respects to his fallen comrades.

El do you think the lads today could have the guts to do what their grand father did? I guess when push comes to shove they would do the same as Krypt and go to the sound of the guns. We always doubt the kids today just as they looked at me when I was 18 and enlisted

You took the words out of my mouth when you said 'when push comes to shove' Denny.
I am convinced they would step up to the plate, well, you only have to look at our
lads now in Afghanistan.
Your own grandson.....mine.....

My grandson just got out of the Marines after 3 years service. In Obama's wisdom they plan to cut the military to pre WW2 levels and are giving early outs. We were so unprepared for WW2 and the Democrats want to make the same mistakes over and over. They think they can fight a war with drones instead of boots on the ground. We tried to bomb Vietnam back to the stone age when they were barely out of the stone age. Mistake after mistake

As I see it, here is a big difference in the comparisons you
make El, Vee is independent and doesn't have to answer for
where she goes, this man was literally in their
Care, therefore their responsibility.

The matter was seen as serious enough to
Be reported to the police...'The Home' also say they made every effort to
help him go there, and complications arose.

Good news anyway, that he arrived back safely.

Welcome back..

I PM'd you to see if you were ok.

All good over here.

As the Bard said all is well that ends well :) I hope your weekend is going great. I had fun yesterday at garage sales. I got a nice coach bag for my wife for $10. My friend who goes with me bought 4 Coach bags and an LV. The LV was sold for $1300. His wife told him don't you dare tell anyone you got it at a garage sale for $30. A few weeks ago he bought some cheap costume jewelry for his wife. One of the pieces was a heart with rubies. After get out a glass he saw it was set in 14K gold so the rubies are real. He gave a couple of dollars for the handful of items. The best sale ever was my friend who found a sale where they were getting a divorce. She sold all his rifles for $20 each :)

Big difference, I agree Grace.
Although we are all 'accountable' in some way or another.
Personally, regardless of the circs, I thought it was great
that this chap did what he did.
I would have thought the care home whould have been able to put two
and two together, if as you say he had originally had offers of
help in getting there.
Anyway, good to know that everybody in care homes are not totally
brain washed into submission.
