Bananas. Strawberries. Drink lots of water, flushes out the acid.

Really?(Clinton)..(:

Well you are probably right about the Kings leading the troops. Reading history makes the
blood curdle.

No wiser about George.

Good Morning Princess....and Good Morning to all here.

I miss Easter of my childhood. It isn't the same these days.
I don't know if it was the same in America, but at Easter all the children
got new clothes....then again at Whit Week and we were in processions
with the church, the Protestants walked on Good Friday and the Roman
Catholics on Easter Sunday. It was an honour to help to hold the
church banner.
It's a funny thing, we never paid any attention to the ethnicity of neighbours.
But looking back the lady who did the smocking on mine and my sister's dresses
was Irish, my friend at school was Welsh but it never cropped up, we just accepted
each other at face value.
Except on Sundays when neighbours were divided, some attended C of E church,
others the Catholic church.....all one God, yes?
Beautiful day here too, heavy frost this morning but the sun has shone all day long
and we are entering mid afternoon here.
Have a beautiful day...:)

I can only base my opinion of John Kerry on how he is acting in the present.
Before that...well, he was entitled to his views.
As for Clinton, I expect they weighed the bad against the good, I don't know,
it would be bad taste for me to comment on American politics.
But your input is appreciated Denny, I feel it is important to know what has gone
on in the past.
It is a pity that memory is so short. A dog doesn't have to bite me twice before I know he will bite :)

INFO:

The origin of the Purple Heart medal dates to the American revolutionary war when rebel General George Washington established what he called the "Badge of Military Merit."
Only three soldiers, all from Connecticut, received the original badge of honor....after the colonial victory, the medal failed to see service again for nearly 150 years.
Congress began proceedings to revive the award after World War 1 upon the suggestion of General Charles Summeral ,his successor, General Douglas MacArthur, continued the effort.

Good grief!!!!! Is this common knowledge?
Only among people who want to know. Very few people are really interested in politics. Most people vote for who is going to give them the ost. They sell their vote very cheap. Nearly all Blacks were Republican because Lincoln freed the slaves until Johnson greatly expanded welfare and made them Democrats. Obama has doubled food stamps. Again people sell their vote cheap

Not just American politics now so can comment without any hesitation.

Am reading up on slavery, and astounded to learn that the Cherokee
Indian tribe owned slaves.

Of course the UK was instrumental in reaping the gains, and that is a
thorn in my side.

Last night whilst watching a tv programme,'Who Do You Think You Are'
the 'subject' was Rebe McEntire....happens the earliest known ancestor
of hers came from these shores, a 9 yr old boy, sent to America on
his own, his father a widower, as an Indentured Servant. Harsh, but
learnt the difference between that and a slave.

the Brits have a way with words .. didn't call them slaves but
The captain would transport the indentured servants to the American colonies and sell their legal papers

The Cherokee fought with the confederacy under the Indian general Stan Waite. Also free blacks owned slaves. There was a movie about a slave ship where the slaves took over the ship. The main character in the movie became a slaver later in life. Popular history only remembers the good parts and ignore the rest

A rose by any other name....

cannot for the life of me understand why anybody would allow their child to go unaccompanied to a foreign land...but I expect when needs must. Rebe's ancestor was one who went on to
survive and buy land....but you do not surprise me the tricks that were played. A year or
two here and there knocked off their actual age in order to gain more years 'service'.

It would appear they were also racist, unlike the Seminoles....unless I have misread.

I remember watching another Who Do You Think You Are and the fellow was really
really upset to learn his ancestor had been a slave. But then moving on to another
branch of his family, it transpired that another ancestor owned a plantation and the
old house was still there. He was delighted with this, really chuffed. Double standards.

good Day all here.
Just put the news on. I can only say that thank goodness those
families are able to have closure of some sort, and can begin to grieve.
I think deep down nobody expected to hear of survivors.
Dreadful to think of their final moments/hours?
May they R.I.P.

No comparison at all Grace, but sorry to hear you have lost your

Slavery has been the norm of the world for most of it's history. It still goes on in Sudan. Most Indian tribes had slaves. It is funny how people think all Indians were alike and didn't have wars among each other. I went to school with a lot of Indians. Each tribe had their own culture. Much like Great Britain with Irish and Welch. The same but so different

oh my my my ..........

Lincoln often expressed moral opposition to slavery in public and private.[1] Initially, he expected to bring about the eventual extinction of slavery by stopping its further expansion into any U.S. territory, and by proposing compensated emancipation (an offer Congress applied to Washington, D.C.) in his early presidency. Lincoln stood by the Republican Party platform in 1860, which stated that slavery should not be allowed to expand into any more territories. Lincoln believed that the extension of slavery in the South, Mid-west, and Western lands would inhibit "free labor on free soil". In the 1850s, Lincoln was politically attacked as an abolitionist, but he did not consider himself one; he did not call for the immediate end of slavery everywhere in the U.S. until the proposed 13th Amendment became part of his party platform for the 1864 election.[

he expected to bring about the eventual extinction of slavery by stopping its further expansion into any U.S. territory, and by proposing compensated emancipation

existing states still had slaves and the secession states were being brought back to the Union by force ..........

the civil war was about secession not slavery ....no state can be a republic with in a democracy..... meaning you can not quit the Union and future states will be entered as free states .. no slavery
