Good Morning Sir Tally
not more snow surely.....it was on Sky news yesterday where a bloke was
covered in the stuff by a snow plow whilst commentating for the cameras...
gathered must be pretty bad in NY. Meanwhile it just didn't happen here
although the headlines were 8 ins to fall.....
I've seen two reports about this reporter from a Philadephia reporter doing his job in a nearby N.J. town. It was on that Inside Edition show I left a link for recently. On the 2njd show, the follow-up also included related snow plow reports. The connection really is that these snow plow trucks do this at a speed which throws the snow fairly far. I suppose that the drivers typically have so many roads/streets on their job list on a given shift.

The 2nd show also had the driver publicly apologizing to the reporter. Another report on that show has a driver knocking down a pedestrian at the front of a car dealership. That thrown snow also broke a frontage window of that dealership. The third report was about a driver with a sadistic streak gleefully burying cars. He recorded his own video with audio and posted it on YouTube. He was fired by the town manager.

I found local news sources rather than the national show link this time.

Alzheimer's Disease has been discussed here before. I heard about this story earlier today and got through it in 4 parts.

It's only about a retired college basketball coach written by a hack local to the university.

It's really about keeping connected as related by the scribe [in reality a Pulitizer Prize finalist for previous commentary], and is apt for our relative, friend, or a cherished neighbor -- any of our loved ones.

http://espn.go.com/espn/feature/story/_/id/10...

""It was just pure joy. That uninhibited joy in the music," Linnea says. "It's one of those moments that you know there's more there, or momentarily there, than sometimes you're aware of."

This is what she hopes for now. A moment of joy. A moment of connection. A moment when Dean Smith is still there."

******** "WHY DO WE CARE about sports to begin with? Why do we watch? Maybe this: to connect. In the arena, or in a sports bar, or maybe just alone on your couch, you watch your favorite team and you plug into something bigger than yourself. It's a hedge against the coldness of the world. Heaven is other people."

"Here is the special cruelty of it: The connector has become disconnected. The man who held the family together has broken off and drifted away. He is a ghost in clothes, dimmed by a disease that has no cure. Even the people closest to him sometimes slip into the past tense: Coach Smith was. They can't help it. They honor him with what amounts to an open-ended eulogy. At the same time, they keep looking for a crack in the curtains. They do what people do when faced with the longest goodbye. They do the best they can."

Can't really put this to Alzheimer's Disease; it is unknown. There are frequent reports of a person with diminished mental faculty to slip away from the watchers/keepers, of course.

Even so, diminished or no ... this can happen without connections to people.

Now had that been Matthew McConnarky (sp) it could
have had a whole different ending, lol. Loved his
acceptance speech, fascinating.
Feel so sorry for all concerned in the Oscar Pistorious case.
He loos so vulnerable. But of course if he is guilty.........
Too true El,

Did you see where Paddy Power has been ticked off

Right too, very distasteful.

Interesting to wonder what are TALLY'S thoughts on the case..

A trifle analytical wouldn't you say Cuz Luke.....I think it correct to say that everything
we watch on tv is "bigger than ourselves"....
Why do I watch? Purely and simply for the pleasure of watching athletes perform against
others, and recently, hopefully to the best their abilities, lol

And I would add that, moving as the story of Dean Smith is, and sorry as I am that he has
been afflicted by Alzheimer's, without reading the link but going soley on the copied
excerpt, I firmly believe that this condition is a case for euthanasia. When all hope of recovery has gone, when dignity is no longer there, then I believe it cruel to keep the
person afflicted by this in a state of vegetation.
The main people against this are the religious community...."the sanctity of life"....but when
life is no longer there, when that person is helpless, mentally and physically, then religion
should be waved aside. imo.
Meantime, working towards a cure for those diagnosed in early stages is of prime importance.
