GO USA!!!!!!!!!!
movies are movies, but if they are intended to portray actual events then they need to be accurate .... the viewing audience is not always so well informed that they know the difference, so many viewers will smply accept that what they saw was all true.

I think so too Franko....and....would add that if it were my relatives who had died
in participating in this noble cause, I wouldn't be too happy to see them written out
of history.

Plus.

I would not have thought subject matters like this...The Monuments;
The Enigma Code; The War In Burma (where there were no Brits
there!) should be classified as 'entertainment'....let alone comedy
as The Monuments Men is portrayed.

It doesn't say too much for what appeals to the general public.

Good afternoon to you dear folks across the way. I'm very worried about y'all. Brigid is coming your way with 150mph winds, basically an Arctic hurricane. I'll be praying for y'all; please take care, and hopefully you're prepared for potential power loss. If not, please hurry and do so.
'Morning Paise. So far so good although the storm is on it's way. YIKES!.....:)
It's the folk in Somerset are having it hard, since Christmas they have been flooded
out, their homes, their fields, and more rain is forecast today.
Your concern is most appreciated though, as I say, nothing too drastic here in this
little corner of the UK.

LOL El,

Great stuff:)
Did you see my post a few above regarding
'Inside Llewyn Davis' and 'The Wolf of Wall St'
Think you'll love Llewyn Davis,
the 'Wolf of Wall St' I don't know will t suit you,
but it's a real treat, at least I found..
I often think it's amazing how we get to know people here
'thru' writing' only and it enables us to develop an opinion
about their characters!
Happy weekend all on the thread.
Thanks Grace....:)

Yes, some posts are more revealing than others, lol.

I think it is what Alias-Trish meant by 'letting one's hair down'.

I didn't see that post you mention, and still cannot find. Looking
forward to seeing that movie, it's on hold at the moment, weather an' all.
Still not a sign of any snow as yet, although had a delivery this morning and
the driver (image of Bruce Springsteen) lol, said there was snow a few
miles away.

Happy 1st February Grace...and all our Kitcheneers.

What ever people see in movies they take as fact. Movies are a poor place to learn history. Kind of like when you watch movies full auto machine guns are everywhere. I reality machine guns used in crime are very rare.

All the more reason why I appreciated you taking the trouble to come in the
Kitchen Vee.....

Lost a beloved pet this morning, after a long struggle so a relief he passed
in his sleep overnight. The rain kindly stayed away as we managed to lay
him to rest in the garden next to his old friend Milly. Strangely, the Heavens
opened just as we finished the task.

Was not the best day for me to be in here at all.

Good luck with sorting out your computer probs....

thank you backing up my point. When I was a kid, here in canada, I saw hundreds of war movies, most of them Amrican made ... hardly saw a brit or a frenchman except for small bit parts, I hardly realized that Russia, POland, and dozens of other countries were involved.... until I was in my 20's I too thought that the USA played the biggest part in WWII .. but the stats show it is the opposite, less than 20%...

Germany lost as many soldiers fighting RUssia as they did on the western front ... I never heard that , not even in school.

Well I'm glad to hear it hasn't been too bad there for you!
And I'm sorry about your loss, even the easiest that they go, isn't easy.
We're having a little ice storm tonight, normally this forecast would've caused some panic, some runs on dairy and bread at the grocery; but this Winter folks see it as a mild event, benign, even, lol. Now we have some REAL weather coming Tuesday, and another deep freeze to follow. Sheesh. Our town is running low on salt, and the frigid temps have many states in our region running out of propane, used by many in rural areas in folks' furnaces. Here they've actually opened a few shelters for folks who don't have nor can afford the now very expensive heating fuel. At least it's not boring, and that's the only good thing I can say about it.
Here's hoping better weather is headed both our ways.

So much appreciated Paise....he was a most unassuming little fellow who I rescued
from sheltering underneath our car with a broken femur, over 15 years ago.....his
last month on Earth was not a happy one.
Not good news at all about the lack of salt and propane, as if the harsh weather isn't
bad enough to contend with. What will happen there, will supplies be brought into
the areas concerned?....vital that folk have some heating of course. Our 'state of
art' green energy pump gave up the ghost yesterday for all of a couple of hours,
and I was panicking I can tell you. Miraculously I turned it completely off and on
again and this seemed to do the trick. Phew!
I hope people who are in need take advantage of the shelters, those could really
save lives and is an excellent thing for the community to provide.
A lovely Winter's day here, sunny, and actually dry, but oh, so cold!

Lovely story in the Letters column of today's newspaper.

A fellow from Manchester writes in, he and his wife met a
German couple of a similar age to themselves whilst on holiday
abroard.
They spent some together and when departing for home, exchanged addresses, resulting in the German couple coming to stay with them.
The Manchester man's father had fought in WW11, and his grandfather in WW1. His wife implored him not to 'mention the war' so his Churchill histories and War Memories by David Lloyd George were hidden away.

Halfway through their first dinner, Hans noticed a wedding photo of the
host's father in Army uniform. They discussed this and it transpired that
Han's father had been a German soldier at the hilltop stronghold at Monte Cassino in Italy, firing down, while his father had been at the bottom firing upwards!

It also turned out that both grandfathers had fought at the Somme during the First War.

Hans turned to the man from Manchester and smiled.

"we are lucky that our fathers and grandfathers couldn't shoot
straight"!
