I was horrified to think I had ignored you Grace, went straight
to look for the post you mention.....it isn't there! It jumps
from 31329 to 31321...so wonder how that came about.
Oh, just upset at the news coverage from Glasgow and the Bronx...
I would think no more so than yourself....I was the long drawn
out rescue from the pub which I found distressing.
Life goes on.
That's a Job's Comfort, lol, considering you are under the weather, take good care Grace, and hope the anti-biotics soon
'kick-in'. You know what I would recommend along with those
anti-biotics don't you? LOL
Weather conditions are atrocious in the UK, not so bad here as
the lake will take any excess down to the sea (or so I am told)
but you may have seen the conditions in Cumbria where my brother
is, in fact all over the UK. Terrible in Scotland.
I've read and heard good reviews about The Butler and about Philomena.

I wish for comfort and safety for all of you in the Auld Isles.

Seemed like it was heading in that direction. That takes quite a bit of input. I doubt that it's all from 'authority'[the authority is topix administration], but also always been from posse from various directions.

Other folk have been 'locked way down' like that; even profiles with tens of thousands of posts. But that takes a quite a lot of input -- quite a lot.

To Tally's point:
"Daddy hates mommy, mommy hates dad
cheat on your taxes, never mind the rules, just play to win and hate your neighbour for the shade of his skin ,stab 'em in the back, that's the name of the game"
From an American perspective, our old cherished, moral values have always included this dark side and I don't see that being eliminated any time soon.
And ... there wasn't internet and ubiquitous news reporting on the national and international scale to the extent it is in these moderns times.
Don't mind me ... glummy mood, maybe because of the weather. Have a cold drizzle currently with a not-so-pleasant breeze. It's one of those days where the warmest official high temp was during the wee hours before dawn; sliding downward as the day goes on.
Bora Bora Bora!
Winter IS coming!
"And ... there wasn't internet and ubiquitous news reporting on the national and international scale to the extent it is in these moderns times"

Quite right Cuz Luke...there was not the media coverage there is
today...and the media does like sensationalism.

Time I think to start looking forward to Christmas and all it holds, this year I am dispensing with the indoor tree, although
will be having a fibre optic tree on the dresser....instead of
an indoor one, putting existing outdoor lights on a small tree
outside. Few decs up indoors.....

Already bought in the Baileys.......:)

OH! All's right with all that! And I like the part about the Baileys :) Will cheer ya up!

{{{ Cuz El }}}

This afternoon I watched a delightful program called "The Story of Costume Drama"; an overview about the period pieces produced by BBC and the independent studios across the pond. There are short clips and interviews with actors, actresses, directors, and writers. An informative narrative ties it all together. I wonder if that has been telecast in the U.K. and Ireland?

Well, I'll be! As I was in and out much today, I checked this thread about 4PM EST, and I saw a post from El, and another from Grace. Like many times, I didn't have time for the length of replies I wanted to leave, so I left the tab open. So I'm back now and settle in to post and those posts are gone!
Posts 394, 400 and 401 are gone. I know two of those were the ones I was going to reply to.
And El pointed out Grace's missing post from back a bit. What the hale?
Slack it looks like you're not the only one having issues with Topix. Sorry that you are.

Meanwhile, I saw that both of you ladies had found those videos impressive in their own ways, as I did. Yes the creeping ice would've had me almost hysterical. I live on a river and sometimes LARGE thick sheets of ice come down, having broken free from bays upriver. They take down trees, they rip docks from moorings and banks. I've wondered what would happen if we had high water and one of those came down, and could crash into the house...<shudder> Ya water and ice are powerful stuff.
I think water is the most powerful element, or thing in the universe. There's not a molecule it can't separate, given time.
And El, I remember you spoke of the chicken that Morgan snatched, still perfect!
Hope you're both snug and warm while Winter howls outside. It's snowing here pretty good now, and we're going out for Mexican food, lol.
Hope this post is here in the AM!

less than astounding, things that help
us so much can turn..

I'm trying to battle this DERN dose,

Now that would be a programme to interest me and I will def look
out for that, especially as it encompasses all aspects.

It is our tradition to have a glass of Baileys with a mince pie
every evening commencing 12 days before Christmas.(We know how
to live it up here don't ya know) lol
Look out for slurred posts, hahaha

Yes indeedy Paise, so am replying while the going is good. How
strange those posts disappeared...offbeat just gets weirder.
Speaking of water/ice and the power of such, as a matter of interest we live in a valley created by ice, by a moving glacier which worked it way down from the top of the mountains down towards the sea forcing it's way through everything, leaving stretches of water behind it which have created the present lakes.
As you say, a powerful force.
Hope you enjoyed your Mexican supper, just the thing this freezing weather...:)

Give it time Grace and look after yourself now, don't
be worrying and let those anti-biotics get to work,
three weeks off Christmas so you should be well clear of
it well before then.
Hoping to see Philomena next week, bit of a schlepp from where
we are (60 mile round trip) or thereabouts, but I adore
Dame Judi Dench and have heard such good reviews on this movie
it's a must see.
Hope you feel better soon.

On this very important day..

The poem
INVICTUS
(By Wm Ernest Henley)

Nelson Mandella kept this poem with him
during his time in prison.

A Tribute...

- INVICTUS -

'In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,

I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul..'

Although it had been expected to happen for sometime it still came as a bit of shock when
the death of Nelson Mandela was announced,
and the irony being, the film of his life, namely MANDELA had premiered in London that very day.
The world is united in it's admiration for this
great man, who created a peaceful revolution.
