Anybody remember us discussing a football player who bit the ear of an opponent last season?

A bit of an update...Can't remember just what his
'punishment' was now, match suspensions and fines no doubt, but the Manager of the team he plays for, Liverpool FC stood by him, the fans stood by him, and by way of reward he announced to the media he wanted to leave the club, as England give him a hard time and he is unhappy at Liverpool.

On Saturday he was brought on the field after half-time...the applause from the fans was tremendous, he was given a welcome fit for a King...

and he put up a good show at Steven Gerrard's testimonial match.

How is that for loyalty from his fans and fellow players? In spite of his comments we all hope he stays at Liverpool.

Word is another player of similar temperament has been signed up...this player has a tendency to 'nut' an opponent if things don't go his way...lol

They learnt their craft on the streetand it's part of the territory. Can't wait for the season to be underway.

Luke...the article was so beautifully written...I barely needed
the visuals, but seek them out I did, I was lucky enough to find images on youtube, with information on the area of Butte...and fascinating it is too. It is true enough what it says, how landscapes suffer because of the Industrial useage, but nevertheless, a fascinating place.
New to me about the Shropshire farmer, just goes to show, it's there if you look for it. I found metal detecting great fun although was not particularly lucky.
As for the match in Indiana....the Stadium is fantastic, I would have loved to watch that match, do you think British soccer is catching on in the USA?(I heard about the altercation during the match)..:)
Cuz El, glad you and Mr. P. got away for successive days and thanks for the links. Quite fascinating.

Soccer has a gradual increase in participation in youth clubs/leagues over the years. All of my grand-kids play, and it's enjoyable watching (the oldest in a competitive club, the others in developmental clubs). It's prevalent in the cities and suburbs, not so much in rural areas. College level participation has been established for many a year.

Pro soccer has had its ups and downs. American sports networks are regularly broadcasting world Association football matches, and more frequently on 2 of the major commercial TV networks in the last 2 or 3 years than before. On weekend sports highlights, I saw that another European match was played in Los Angeles. Don't remember the teams.

Hi El,
And good to see you back...
lovely to have a break .. Like you say-
does a body good, I'm sure you'll agree,
Glad Peter enjoyed it too.
Ali was licking her paw for the past days,
And sometimes trying to get the whole paw in
her mouth &tried chewing it gently, which was DERN awkward,
As 'twas a back paw, poor little baby.
I looked and saw a deepish cut,
So did the right thing & brought her to vet,
Who cleaned it and put her on anti biotic+
Pain killers and VERY LITTLE walking next few days.
So I have a little patient(:
When you get a chance take a look at my post>

about D Farina, RIP..
I know it's not easy to see all posts when one's been away.
Am still shocked numb as I'm sure you are about the case
of the Polish woman + partner who so unbelievably abused her little 4yr old
Son who died from his injuries..
I, too, am amazed no Ğr or teacher copped it.
Beyond words.
However,
Welcome back El..
<<tapping foot>> Where are my croissants?!:)

So, is Ali a good patient? I saw a little bit of news about that Polish couple --- grrrrr!!!

And that whack-job in Venice, California who mowed down boardwalk pedestrians with his car. Collared and charged with murder. Due process, and major, major prison time for him I hope as well.

May all these whackos rot in prison while making little rocks out of big rocks.

Oh yeah, Simon C. Seems he has hooked quite the trollop! But seriously, hoping that the kids (including the one in the oven) will not be scarred by this mess.

Thanks Cuz Luke, it was a nice change, not too far to travel and it was good to dine out for a change.

Yes, football started in the Inner Cities in the19th century mainly to keep thelads off the streets, so it figures that it is still prevalent in that type of area. The season started with a vengeance last evening, although I didn't watch it, saw snippets on th news this morning, apparently fans ran onto the pitch and police on horseback went on, one steward was knocked down by a horse and taken to hospital..all rather unpleasant.
Where has the sense of sportsmanship gone to where you ake aloss on the chin?
Even worse, a team abroad lost and the referee was blamed for a wrongful decision...he was beheaded and his head stuck on a pole
in the midle of the pitch. Brazil if I am not mistaken who hold the World Cup in 2014!

Plaid Cymru....I see you know about them...they have an office in town. It is Plaid who wanted Welsh Independence, which would have entailed going into Europe rather than the UK.
