Tony, Krypteia, and anybody watching the coverage..

enjoy the rest of the proceedings from London,
wonder if we will see the new parents and baby
this day?

I feel lucky to be around to witness this, so I
will take my leave for today and relish the
enthusiasm from the crowds and journalists.
Love Kay Burley's impartation of events in

Don't bother K - no sense in wasting good logic on this one - I am curious as to whether this might be another persona to the other troll who has begun infesting this thread. Doesn't like to let knowledge get in the way of being contentious.

I don't know that history all that well, but the link he provided seemed to indicate that Germany was not the instigator in WW1. They were one of the last to get involved in the fray.

The article was interesting in that it summarized events over a period of 30 to 50 years that steadily led up to the intense atmosphere that resulted in WW1.

Of course, WWII was entirely due to the German aggression ... but taking control over a country is not colonization is it?

I think it has to do with the succession rules, plus the family name staying the same?

Where's Tony when we need him ? I thought Hitler was responsible for WWII and then Japan chimed in?
Not clear on what started WWI.
Japan was doing it's thing in thier region for years before Hitler came along. However, I think that Japan had hoped to use the fact that Russia was busy deploying their forces in Europe to thier advantage enabling them to try to extend thier forces further north than they would have if the war in Europe was not happening.

I don't think what I can gather Hitler wanted a war with us and didn't think we would get involved but we had a pact with France if Poland got invaded..Tony is more up on 20th century history than I.
we just found a program on "On Demand" by Oliver Stone, its suppose to be all about the things in history that we were never told. it started with WW2 but only watched the one so far, but its interesting.. if nothing else I "might" actually learn or re-learn something. lol - its like going to school all over again..

ugh - maybe I don't want to watch it afterall. lol lol

The Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated by a Serb that triggered a diplomatic crises.Think it was the Austro Hungarians that fired the first shots as the preparation to an invasion of Serbia and then it all kicked off..Again think tony will be more up on this than me..

Might see if I can get this,I really do need to brush up more on more recent history. It made me laugh when tony mentioned that history seemed to have stopped after Victoria or words to that effect, lol,as I agreed because I'm only interested in Victorian and earlier myself..

<quoted text>The fact that Germany was not totally defeated in WW1 was the reason for WW2. Just like the US failure to really take out Iraq in the first gulf war was the reason for the second war. When you defeat an enemy it must be a total defeat
would that be nice ... to do unto one country (Germany) the same thing they attempted to do (totally defeat another country to the point of assimilation)....

Actually, the fact that many penalties and sanctions had been imposed on Germany was the reason why Hitler got into power .. he used those penalties as his way to build up resentment ... here is the WIkipedia summary

" Irredentism and revanchism were strong in Germany because of the significant territorial, colonial, and financial losses incurred by the Treaty of Versailles. Under the treaty, Germany lost around 13 percent of its home territory and all of its overseas colonies, while German annexation of other states was prohibited, reparations were imposed, and limits were placed on the size and capability of the country's armed forces"
