hmmm .. it was actually a miniature Schauzer, he was actually better than the Beagle .. barely ....<quoted text>
You was unlucky with the Schnauzer Franko, normally very amenable
to being trained, that is why they are sought after by the police
for police work.
Back in the day I had a German Shepherd who was in my opinion sadly lacking in the brains department. Fortunately a friend
who happened to be a police dog-handler took me in hand, to train
the dog to police standard, I doubted it could be done, however, after two solid weeks of his training me to train my dog, the dog
was perfectly trained, came to call, stayed up to ten minutes, and etc., one thing he would not do, neither did I request it, was to train him to the arm...that way you have a lethal weapon on your hands he explained.
I should add this dog did not have a bad bone in his body, he would let anybody in the house, lick them to death.
Moving on....I rescued a Yellow Labrador. He had been tortured by his young master who got home from school before his parents got home from work. The dog turned on him, he was taken to kennels and advertised, I answered the advert. For me, he was good as gold. However his one desire was to attack anything that moved, including children. I had to walk this dog at 11 p.m when everybody was indoors, I had a grown man crying when he bared his teeth at him when he crossed our path..a police officer who attended my house after a proposed burglary, jumping over the adjoining hedge at the sight of him as I answered the door...the dog saved me from two proposed break-ins. I loved that dog.
Because of the fact that it was decided for me that he was a liability, I had to part with him, and gave him to a hotel as
a guard dog.
I do not for a minute think that Ali is nearly as unhandleable as
my Golden Labrador was, due to his unfortunate past, but would plead with Grace to work on training him to come on command.
It would even be a good investment to have a professional trainer
train him to that standard.
It could save a lot of heart ache.
Perhaps it was us, we probably did not put in the effort reuired to properly train them ...
