Well,
it's kinda like in the jungle,
and .. observing the pack...
where smaller dogs must stand back
while the alpha dog has it's meal!
remember we had the best teachers in the world

like the taking of salt from India / men off another country's ships / rubber from Indo-China /etc etc like father like son

I suppose there's 'for' and 'against'
some would say he put himself in the position
of being hounded, BY speaking out..
others would say
SOMEONE *must* speak out.
Could be, certainly.

Similarly, a 'whistleblower' in an old people's
care home blew the whistle on the cruelty to
the residents...she was hounded out of her job,
her life made a misery, but we all know she did
the right thing by the pople involved. Steps
were taken and the staff removed and replaced.

happy Birthday USA and to you posters hoping you will have a safe 4th , to those who celebrate
I wrote a letter to Blair: I believe my government read it why?
I commented that a photo showed Mr. Blair eating with his troops during the gulf war and he was using plastic white
eating utensils ......of course never heard from NO#10
mention how USA big shots would be using Sunday flatware
next pictures out of Iraq US dignitaries were , yes white plastic
nevertheless....

A Holy Trinity that was!

It was our respective countries' misfortune that the
two leaders were in power at the same time.
Had it been another two, or even another one, it could
have changed the face of history.

Washington who refused a kingdom and Lincoln who refused a confederation....
Your Winnie was the right man for that time , he kept England ..England
besides the Queen's cheerio doesn't fit here .. don't know if you are saying good-bye or asking for breakfast cereal
Sir Tally...all due respect..

'he kept Great Britain....'

All four of the countries in the UK and Ireland fought and died for freedom.

El please excuse us when we refer to England to include Wales Ireland and Scotland. We seldom use the correct term of United Kingdom :) No slight is intended

Tally Check out the wonderful book Oliver Wiswell. It is the revolution told from the Torry point of view. Remember 1/3 wanted free from England. 1/3 wanted to stay with Briton and 1/3 just wanted to be left alone. Kind of like all Frenchmen would tell you today how they were in the Resistance when the Resistance were mostly Communist

Morning all, the kitchen seems to be draped with strange flags and buntings - could it be that certain colonial chappies are celebrating something? Have a great day over the pond and I will resist any comments along the lines that we should be celebrating the departure!!

I'm spending 7 hours in hospital today for blood transfusions, so have had to arrange for my US visitors to meet me in a pub afterwards - what a bummer!!
Tony I can't even imagine what that's going be like. Thoughts are with you that all goes well.

I agree with you and just said last night - are we he headed for WWIII? I get why the people wanted to get Mubarak out. Why did the military arrest Morsi and suspend the Constitution? What happened?

That would be part of my point. Might does not make right in my book. We have seen examples throughout history where it all went bad.

Is that some sort of new Cancer Treatment plan? Does insurance cover the Pub charges? What's the deductible for that sort of thing?
You got it, all part of the Cancer treatment. Kind of you
to take an interest. Wouldn't that be something if insurance
did cover Public House charges....only in Cloud Cuckoo Land honey.

Thanks Denny.

Thing is, the other countries have their own military regiments,
you would be amongst the first to appreciate that, so when the
Royal Welch Fusiliers for instance, or the Scots Guards, go off
to Afghanistan, they go with pride in their own country, they
have their own language, now revived, they are not English, they
are British.

You being a Texan, would surely appreciate that aspect.
