I noticed that neither Tony nor Krypteia made any comments on the recent murder...and I respect that, they being ex servicemen.
Sad to hear of the repercussions.
Indeed, El..
I think they'll have work cut out to try to condense it
all down & find a true worthy winner-
SO *many* good acts,

I find it interesting-when looking back,
acts I found great first time round
don't seem that great on second view-
Just a personal observation- about myself lol

I like the two brothers who sang.

I think the guy who threw swords
(forget his title) stood out..
He was very tall and grabbed one's attention at once.

Also the high divers.. Amazing.

The shadow people.

Cannot stand the mimic with the big eyes,
He gets on my nerves...
He got thru' last night.

Sweeter still...we all have different tastes(:

Obama and Clinton changed the intelligence report and told a lie to America for over two weeks to hind the truth for political reasons. Clinton lied before congress again.

Oh Denny..that old chestnut! lol where do these people
get their pre-conceived ideas from? You know..and I know..
that every possible type food is available over here and most
can put their hand to cooking it. Having said that, what's nicer than a good old Lancashire Hot Pot..or an Irish Stew.
And being so multi-cultural tastes have changed over the years,
introducing new herbs and spices we didn't have available before.
The traditional fish-n-chips would not be the same without vinegar but these days Soy and Balsamic are taking the place of regular
vinegars in the homes.
Not only good for cleaning windows, vinegar has a thousand uses..here's one..
Add a tablespoon to water when boiling ribs or meat for stews, and even the toughest meat will be so tender you can cut with fork or will fall off the bone.
Try it on that deer meat!...:)
LOL My deer is so tender the extra effort isn't necessary. I do like vinegar though

<quoted text>All the armed police in Britain are highly trained in the correct use of firearms.
Armed police are kept to a minimum as they are specialists in this field, releasing the average bobby to handling affairs where it is considered a gun is not necessary.
The theory behind this no doubt, is to prevent accidental shootings.
Police without a weapon is a foreign concept here.

I figured there was a reason behind it. But it is Unfortunate that none were around when those men stabbed the officer.

Another example of differences I guess. I assume perhaps incorrectly that unlike the US there isn't the level of everyday violent gang crime in the UK. What I understand you have is the uncertainty of when the next terrorist attack will occur. Is that even close to accurate?

What you don't have thankfully is a ridiculous second amendment 'right to bear arms' that has been so perverted and distorted everyone and their brother thinks they can pile up an arsenal.

Arm the police not the people.

Hi Tony
Would like your opinion on the dreadful events in
Woolwich last week..
Always good to see you around..
What do I say? I have always regarded myself as a liberal, in spite of people's expectations because I am ex-commandos. However, I have no liberal reaction to this disgusting act. Firing squad? I would happily pull the trigger.

I am sick of extremism, in any shape or form. But I think there is now a backlash. Like most, I am fully aware that such an act as this in no way reflect the Muslim community of the UK, the vast majority of whom are law-abiding citizens who have no desire to change the liberal democracy we enjoy. Yet, they have consistently done nothing to curb the disaffected youth amongst their ranks. Too many of their community have lived here for years without learning the language. There is no point in anyone with a white skin attempting to have an impact on this - totally futile. The sin the community commits is one of omission, not commission.

Unless the Muslim community is prepared to do more than hand-wringing and declaration of disgust at terrorism, I personally am losing sympathy with them. If there is a backlash, do not expect me to defend any rights they believe they have unless they are prepared to defend my right as a liberal white Anglo-Saxon protestant to live in country based on the laws which that enshrines. Otherwise, watch me with a gun on the barricades.

There's a few of us - Denny I believe, Boomer, K and I all served. Steady on about Hitler - I'd need to be 85 to have been involved in that war!!!. Now Galtieri - yup, him we banjoed!

They have gangs in England they just stab you to death. Without the 2nd amendment the rest don't mean squat. Crime is far lower in states that have concealed carry. 17 of the top crime states have strict gun laws and no carry

Sorry, didn't mean to prematurely age you. Galtieri? Falklands or 'don't cry for me Argentina Evita'? Most of the current posters I know stateside were in 'Nam.

One of the things I am in awe of is when you come back from all that, what's "normal"? Seems the wife denting the car must no longer be that earth shattering.

I would venture to guess that most civilians can't eve begin to understand.

I think that's a load of hooey Denny and I think you and your NRA compatriots are delusional and distort the bill of rights if you really believe you have some constitutional right to walk around carrying a hidden gun. And for 'you people' to oppose background checks and better gun control is ludicrous.

thank you so much....
only couple of days and I have missed being here

Will say in my defence, had a few obstacles to

Somebody has made coffee...the Kitchen is very
welcoming this morning....:)
El .. I read your previous post in other people's replies but did not see the original ...

I have gone through phases where I spent way to much time in TOPIX and then drew back to the point of not posting for weeks at a time. It seems hard to strike a balance. Currently I post in just a few threads, yours being one of them .. and show up every few days. WHen more than 100 posts have been made I just skim over and look for posts that respond directly to me and skip a few ... and live with the fact I don't have the time to read and respond to them all ...

we all go through that EL, so no one will judge you for being frugal with your time.

SO, I hope you take that to heart, post every few days when you get a free 30 minutes, and find a good balance between real life and online life ... I am sure you apply a value to both so just keep it under control.

sounds like a comment in the spirit of memorial day ...

A shout out to the American posters as they honor this important day ....

As always I am impressed with the honest and straightforward way you view things Tony.

ANd your remarks are dead on about how the community as a whole seems to be allowing the extremists to do their thing, all the while saying "our religion truly is about peace and good will to others" ... it seems quite the paradox.

However, what can we say when there are neo-nazis, KKK, and other white supremacist groups running around here?
