We *ALL* know paedophiles are repeat offenders -

also,

they are requested to register HERE also!

I'm saying IF they do the time for a serious offense -
a LONG DRAWN OUT term, WHAT'S the use in doing a jail term at all..
if their life 'after' isn't given 'some' credence?

they mean to be rehabilitated - ever under
A WATCHFUL EYE.
My point, as Denny did before me, is that some are beyond 'rehabilitation'. Why should rapists and pedophiles and murderer have a "life after" paying their so called 'debt to society'? What about their debt to the person whose life they cut short or the rape victim or child who is scarred for life? How is their "life after" given credence?

The rapist, pedophile and murderer made their choices.....their victims had no choice.

Morning El..
Morning all...
I've said it before and I will again,
I agree with you here,
we ALL know [and you have said this too]
what ARMSTRONG is guilty of,
that he turned out to be a cheat, a 1st class liar,
a sneak etc.. we all read about it..
but, like you say, it is done & dusted..
his career is ruined before the whole world,
he got his just desserts and STILL people
are 'baying for blood'..
Interesting, it reminds me of a case here,
VERY DIFFERENT SUBJECT MATTER, granted, but,
the same in that 'the public won't let it go.
Tis about a paedophile who served every day of a LONG
sentence for his wrong doings..
when he was freed, the media and the public followed him EVERYWHERE,
they hounded him night and day, it was up for grabs,
where he lived now, where he was going to live permanently,
where he went, what he did,
on one occasion, he traveled by train,
media were at the rail stn. before he left and their media
mates were at the other end in a rural town waiting for
his arrival,
then he went abroad AND, yes, the media followed.
Yes, before anyone mentions it WE ALL KNOW the crime of paedophilia
but where's the point at all in someone serving a very long sentence
and not allowed to live 'any kind of life' when they emerge.
Interesting question of the pedo .... was his sentence enough?

The sad fact is that most predos reoffend ... is this a message from the public to ALL pedos, that if you commit such an offense it will haunt you for the rest of your life? Is that perhaps the additional deterrent beyond jail time, necessary to stop at least some pedos from commiting the crime?

In reply to the question you put

and I preface it by saying that CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE
is a most heinous crime [stating the obvious]
and I agree a VERY TIGHT rein MUST be kept
on the perpetrator .. as we know, this is
something an abuser is likely to return to.
but...
I believe if 'he/she' shows remorse,
and is prepared to go straight, yes,
they SHOULD be given that chance ..
having served a long sentence..
perhaps they HAVE reformed..
and where's the point in serving at all..
if, when it's over, they aren't allowed
live A sort of life, with a new beginning.
AND MOST DEFINITELY under serious supervision
by professionals NOT by 'media'
with DOLLAR signs before their eyes - who just
want to sell papers with sordid stories..
a very valid point ... what if the perp has indeed refoRmed and wOn't reoffend ..?

The system has a lot of cracks criminals can faLl thrOugh ... but how much is too much anD how much is not enough.?

A joke before I slumber ....

I've always got on with my neighbors. That was until we had a black family move in next door. Suddenly everything changed. Doors were constantly being slammed, there was shouting and music was played at full blast into the small hours.
Despite trying all that, I still couldn't get that darn black family to move out.

Thanks for the link Grace, and Good Morning.

Justice will prevail.

I believe we are 'on the same page' as our American
cousins would term it, we don't agree with ANYBODY
being hounded...either by the media or by the general public.

On a different note, I do regret thinking along the lines I did,
when Osama Bin Laden was publically humiliated. Suffice he was
caught and paid for his sins.

Afraid I won't be posting so much in the future, but I will keep in
touch.

As you say...'SOME are beyond rehabilitation'...

can we generalise then.

And the severity of the crime plays a great part in it all.

Speaking as one who comes under the category of 'scarred for life'.

Yet fortunately, I maintain a humane approach to anybody who has
paid his dues, and attempts to lead a normal decent life.

I have been thinking about this conversation all morning PF..
thinking what I would do if it happened to any of mine.
There was an occasion one time when one of mine was threatened
in a different manner and I can tell you I didn't let it go
lightly. Like you would not believe.
Not that I am saying I regard mine as more important than other
people's children.
But what I would like to know is...what would YOU say is the answer..
once someone has served time and is now released into society?
well El for me its an emotional decision as u would expect, but i sincerely believe that they should get jail time (im thinking 15 yrs min) and then Afterwards be sent to a mental facility for the rest of their life. i dont feel putting them back out into society is the right thing to do for all concerned. the likelyhood they will repeat is just to high, and yes of course the so called "experts" say they can be reformed, but then again They Would say that since its their job to give an opinion but they are not held responsible if they let a person back on the streets and the guy commits another crime (im talking about Any crime now) they say oh hes not a threat to society and then BAM it happens again.. i know u cant predict any kind of crime but still i question the "experts" because of this kind of thing...

another thing, if u feel sorry for the guy whos let out and followed, think about WHY the people are doing this, its Fear and Frustration that make people do what they do. they want to feel their children are safe from these type of evil people, and they have a right to that too. u just told us how u felt with regards to ur own children - u wanted to protect them in Every way possible, its a mothers need and desire to do so, And look out.. because she will do anything she can to keep harm from coming in her childs direction. natural and normal response.(and fathers too) and IMO its her Right to do so since its not just the criminal who has right, but sometimes it feels like they have more.
thats sad..
yep, i say put them away from society, for good.

RM Quinn,
referring back to our #22416..

I take on board what you say here,
and indeed, as you say,
it was the perpetrator's decision
to offend - the victim had no part in it -
true..
but isn't that where a civilised attitude comes
into play, the law is there to SEE the offender
is duly punished and when his punishment is
administered [by way of a lengthy jail sentence]
justice is done.

Of course, victims. MOST UNFORTUNATELY
will live in the shadow of these experiences..
as the offender will have had years
of his life taken away [and rightly]

'maybe' AND 'hopefully' having learned a lesson.

****

Franko,
Thank you for both replies on
this subject.

interesting as always.

Thank you so much for this
reply El, and for your opinion.

Am sorry to hear you won't be posting
as much, I know there are 'real life'
situations going on for us all -
behind the scenes, stuff we may not often care to
share here, but, nevertheless, have to attend to

ie>
like tomorrow night I'm going to a birthday
party of a close friend.. three of us who live
near are very close friends,
two of us were plotting and planning all along
little surprises [as 'tis a BIG birthday] of our 3rd friend
however, my 'plotting'friend has ended up
in hospital, rather unexpectedly,
which casts a shadow on proceedings..

life NEVER goes as 'we think' it should!!!

On a lighter not,
thought you'd enjoy this..
in fact I KNOW you will(:

I went to the store, a while ago -
and included Ali's walk,
altho' it's a DREADFUL day weather wise-
lashing rain .. bitter cold .. high winds.

Purchased a few bits for my friend who is
in hospital, bought Ali a treat,
which I often do..
Her bright eyes watch me excitedly as I approach the car,
I think she knows, at this stage,
there will be goodies in the bag!
just like little children know(:

I was happy & content in myself..

Until .....

at the checkout,
I spotted the banner headline on our
Evening Newspaper.. displaying
an act of gross animal cruelty,
it 'threw' me completely..
and I returned in a different mood.

I wouldn't repeat here what was involved,
just to say the animal in question is now
at peace .. and the cops are looking for the perpetrators.

All I can say is...
the question is often asked

Are there ALIENS among us?

I say YES..
because people who treat animals brutally
are completely *alien* to me... and the rest of us decent folks.
