I think I would have liked to have been born in that one. It's a "red-letter" day for I observed 2 pileated woodpeckers at the same time at the woods' edge nearest my house this morn. I don't ever remember seeing but one at a time. Heard 2 or more drumming occasionally, but this was something special. Could be an omen???

On the BBC World News service, I viewed the London New Years celebrations and so much fireworks! Stayed up to watch the ball drop at Times Square NYC, and the good time had by all.

Still a wintery wonderland here in middle-earth Indiana, Cuz Eleanor. I'm embarrassed to write that I too was going to look up something -- dont' think it was animal-related though -- but got distracted by the TV content, and then completely blanked out on the nature of the quest! Argggh... hope THAT'S not an omen!!??

Argggh... hope THAT'S not an omen!!?? While trying to remember what I was looking for via Wikipedia, this was "staring my in the face" on it's "Did You Know" section: Levy-Dew, also known as A New Year Carol and Residue, is a British folk song of Welsh origin traditionally sung in New Year celebrations. The song was set to music by Benjamin Britten in 1936. It is associated with a New Year's Day custom involving sprinkling people with water newly drawn from a well. Here we bring new water from the well so clear, For to worship God with, this happy New Year. Chorus (after each verse): Sing levy-dew, sing levy-dew, the water and the wine, The seven bright gold wires and the bugles that do shine. Sing reign of Fair Maid, with gold upon her toe; Open you the West Door and turn the Old Year go. Sing reign of Fair Maid, with gold upon her chin; Open you the East Door and let the New Year in. More about this .... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Levy-Dew

This is pertinent "On This Day", I should "say". It makes possible what we're doing today: 1983 – The ARPANET changed its core networking protocols from NCP to TCP/IP, marking the beginning of the Internet (visualization of routing paths pictured) as we know it today. (Wikipedia)
