The baseball experience has changed over the years. I remember back when Dodger Stadium sold cigars and cigarettes at the concession stands.
Those days are long gone.
Remember the old peanut guy who yelled "NUTZ!" He reminded me of Jimmy Durante. A true original.

MLB baseball, especially during a pennant race, is a daily grind it out on the edge of your seat excitement. Real fans know what I am talking about. 162 games of potential agony.

Geez #4, you up on seat's edge on April 26 of any given season?

Bud (not to be confused with Selig) I'm with you ... from late July onward. But ya gotta make the playoffs! Then ... drama really enfolds!

The Red Sox will gladly take that "gift" from the Cardinals last night. For the first two(2) innings...I thought I was having a flashback to the "Bad News Bears" Movie..LOL!! Then to add injury to insult...Beltran "dings" his ribs...that potentially may be the greater than the loss last night.
Now..I am very curious to see what this pitching phenom is all about.Wacha certainly has been virtually untouchable in his last 30 innings. Hopefully he has some fielding support him tonight unlike Wainwright. Let's see how he handles pitching in Fenway Park..with a certain "Green Monsta" looming menacingly over his right shoulder. It sometimes causes young phenoms to get a bit "edgy" and tentative.
We shall see...
Yeah, I thank the Sox for giving it back last night (errors). Beltran shows up and adds an insurance run. How about those 3 young pitchers for the Cards!

Wacha,Wacha,Wacha .... Martinez and Rosenthal.

All the Cards' pitchers were very impressive!!...and still very "wet behind the ears"(the oldest being 23!!)

Walks, aggressive base running, and Breslow's "brain cramp" help contribute to the Red Sox's demise in the 7th inning...but I feel the Cards deserved to win regardless of the shoddy Red Sox defense..
They were clearly the better team last night..

Now...the Red Sox have an even a bigger issue...Clay Buchholz(originally suppose to start Game 2) is experiencing continued fatigue in his shoulder...was pushed back to game 4 and may not even make that start!! He was the best pitcher in the American League in the first 2 months( 10 wins and ERA 1.60) before going on shelf for 3 months...and now it potentially looks like he is disabled again

Bad..Bad...News for the Red Sox if this is confirmed...

We still have plenty to fear from the Sox.
Good Gawd, David Ortiz is a wrecking crew on his own. Just hope the Cards have learned not to give him anything to hit, especially with runners in scoring position.
Having said that, I've been mightily impressed with the Cards' young pitching. Matheny believes in finding out what they can do, unlike LaRussa, who mostly wanted a team of veterans.

With the next 3 games in the Busch Stadium...it will interesting how the Red Sox manager John Farrell use Ortiz and Mike Napoli. With no DH..Ortiz will most likely be the one to play 1st base..and he is not the most agile fielder to say the least!! Napoli will most likely be the odd man out..pitch hitting only

With no real "protection" in the order behind Ortiz...expect the Cards to be very careful with him...especially with men on base!!

Again...another dilemma for the Red Sox...No pun intended...the cards may be stacking against the Red Sox in St Louis..

I'll be interested to see what the Cards do with Allen Craig, now that they're back home. I'm not sure if they can afford to test his injured ankle by letting him play at first base. They've definitely ruled out using him in the outfield.
It means a lot to have his bat in the lineup, he'd definitely been an RBI machine up until that freak injury he suffered right before the end of the regular season.

Writing previous post, I forgot about the new wild card format, with a one-and-done game to compete in the Divisional Series. So, I'll backtrack to being concerned by early to mid-June that your team is contention for a Division clinch by end of season to avoid that one-and-done.

But of course, every season game from game 1 counts!

Last evening after Ortiz produced with base runners (once again), I concluded that given a certain situation -- protecting a lead of 2 runs or more and even with Sox baserunners and how Sox batters lower in order may or may not be hitting -- I'd walk him; possibly even with loaded bases!

Or even plunk him low with an off-speed pitch!:)
