Federal report: Warming is disrupting America with weird weather, rising pollen, more costs

May 6, 2014 Full story: Cape Breton Post 1,084

Global warming is rapidly turning America into a stormy and dangerous place, with rising seas and disasters costing citizens from flood-stricken Florida to the wildfire-ravaged West, according to a new U.S. federal scientific report.

You're very addled. First, co2 is not the only greenhouse gas. Others are actually more impactful. Your percentage is wrong. And even if the percentage were correct the mechanism of greenhouse gases, mostly co2, is perfectly well known by everyone.
i beg your pardon.....it's 4/10 of 1%!!!!

it's still a minor trace gas.

so go pound sand, son.

what mechanisms are you claiming to know, sport? are you the shining star who can back up your claims? nobody else here can. maybe you're 'special'.

The cohorts are largely the same: The earth is under 10000 years old group and the there's no climate change cohort.
I'll continue to describe one as the same as the other. Because they are, at root.

i understand, son! you're just doing the only thing you can....because you can't back up your faith in man made climate change.

Hey tee baggrz troll, you better go review exactly how long it took for the Ice Age to move and then how long it took to recede.

It's non disputable fact: The changes now are at a far, far faster rate than any of the previous ones which took place absent human forcings like co2.

And everyone understands the greenhouse effect. Even the professional denialists don't deny the mechanism itself.

so....aside from calling me names....all you got is argumentum ad populum.

you must be a bona fide genius, huh?

co2 'forcings' are grossly overestimated. there's never been a scientific experiment showing what mitigation of the man made portion of co2 will do besides take away personal freedoms and fund the 'global dons'.

climate science has never held up to actual rigorous scientific methodology, and you haven't stood up to prove anything about your religion being anything but faith based.

psssst.....the climate is a complex system! maybe you'd learn a little if you looked at the big picture instead of obsessing over man made co2, son. enlighten yourself if you're convinced that you're so much smarter than everyone else. so far.....you come up short on that claim, too, from where i stand.

Whether _every_ environmentalist agrees on the degree of effect or not doesn't matter.
Every qualified scientist agrees on the basic mechanism and the basic effects climate change will have.
Actually it does matter. I'm not denying that man has effect on Co2, but it's a small part in comparison as the earth has done this before without any human intervention whatsoever. Scientists say their models show the Co2 levels doubled 55 million years ago with the temperature warming 9 degrees in about 13 years. Certain plants and species thrived in this environment and life carried on.Geological records also show that ice ages have occurred when the Co2 level was in 2000ppm to as high as 8000 ppm. The earth runs in cycles, it has before man was here and will far after we are gone. The part we play on Co2 is insignificant as compared to what the sun, a meteorite, or possibly a large volcano erupting would play on those levels.

Only the scientifically illiterate or the fossil fuel advocacy groups voice any disingenuous doubts at this point.
Consuming resources is different from ignorant denial of reality.
That of course is your opinion. And of course, anyone that forms a different opinion from yours (and this goes for a few others in here I noticed)... has to be far right or an illiterate boob. Wrong. Some of formed an opinion that though man doesn't do the environment any favors, the effect we have on the global warming hype is greatly exaggerated by certain entities that have profited greatly from misinformation. And people such as yourself, have nothing better to do than to wack off to your life sized Al Gore poster, spew your opinions (in a self loving but yet condescending fashion to others) on the internet, in a attempt to keep the hype alive.

Thank God good old Al invented the internet.

Interesting article!
The farmers are going to love it when the CO2 and temperature levels rise..

It's the "Green House" in the green house effect.

Ice cores are cylinders of ice drilled out of an ice sheet or glacier. Most ice core records come from Antarctica and Greenland, and the longest ice cores extend to 3km in depth. The oldest continuous ice core records to date extend 123,000 years in Greenland and 800,000 years in Antarctica. The ice encloses small bubbles of air that contain a sample of the atmosphere from these it is possible to measure directly the past concentration of gases (including carbon dioxide and methane) in the atmosphere.

Antarctic ice cores show us that the concentration of CO2 was stable over the last millennium until the early 19th century. It then started to rise, and its concentration is now nearly 40% higher than it was before the industrial revolution.

Measurements from older ice cores confirm that both the magnitude and rate of the recent increase are almost certainly unprecedented over the last 800,000 years.

<quoted text>Co2 is at very high levels and what has that caused in warming????? Nothing. Warming stopped 17 years ago. If a person says the world will end this Friday the Saturday morning he is considered a nut. Al Gore said years ago there would be no ice in the Arctic yet he is still taken seriously. If every bit of ice in the Arctic melted how much would the ocean level rise???? Not an inch! The amount of water or H2O is fixed and doesn't change . If you have a glass full of water and ice does it overflow the glass when it melts???

You apparently mixed up "not knowing what to do about climate change" with "there's no such thing as climate change."
In fact you deniers' fears about the former fuel your claims regarding the latter. It's never been about science or understanding or fact - it's only been about ideology. That's what your little switcheroo there demonstrates.
Lets see!

<quoted text>and these kinds of phenomena haven't been occurring until man made co2 emissions began to increase, huh?
There are some options to cool the planet if things get too hot. Might be little drastic, but they will work.

-An impact winter is a period of prolonged cold weather due to the impact of a large asteroid or comet on the Earth's surface. If an asteroid were to strike land or a shallow body of water, it would eject an enormous amount of dust, ash, and other material into the atmosphere, blocking the radiation from the sun. This would cause the global temperature to decrease drastically.

-Nuclear winter is a hypothetical climatic effect of nuclear war. Models suggest that detonating dozens or more nuclear weapons comparable to the Hiroshima blast could have a profound and severe effect on the climate causing cold weather and reduced sunlight for a period of months or even years by the emission of large amounts of smoke and soot into the Earth's stratosphere.

will co2 mitigation save us from these perils, too????

oh, my word. those things sound frightening.

please tell me we can stop them with a carbon tax!!!!

Yes, you are denying it.

No, human activity isn't a small part.

By the way, you can't even get what's under discussion correct: It's not the effect on co2. It's the heat trapping effect of co2...and other greenhouse gases. You're confused.

The changes now are happening at a far, far faster rate than the previous changes. That's due to human activity. Every scientist knows this. It doesn't matter what Fox mouthbreathers or fundamentalist teachers of high school Creationism think.
