"Whenever you're talking about ghosts it's off the wall," he said. "But it's serious in that the public gives trust in us and we need to take that seriously, and setting up cameras in public buildings to catch paranormal activity, I don't think that is gaining the public's trust."

??????????

What?
Really?

Can't go a half mile from my home without being on a camera somehow anymore.

Yeah! That's my trust of no privacy.

If u are not doing anything illegal so what if you're on camera. If they happened to help solve a crime that u were victim of that's a good thing.

But no way do I buy the trying to catch a ghost stuff.

But when u are in public with these cameras u have no expectations of privacy anyway. Hello u are in public!:). Privacy is what you have at your house!

Was my point. There are cameras everywhere anymore. Once again, society speaks from both sides of mouth.

Say, Lylah, do you have the addy to the the Topix forum? The one where a lot of folk on offbeat go?

The only things I would have problem with, are if public funds were spent to do that. Otherwise yes I have A BIG PROBLEM with security cameras in general. Like the old saying goes, Big Brother is everywhere and it's all a loss of privacy. For instance in the EU there are over 2.5 million CCTV cameras, that's one camera for every 12 people! You can literally not walk anywhere, without THEM watching you. And this "if you're not doing anything wrong you shouldn't mind being watched" garbage, it's just frightening that anyone in a still [relatively] free society would think that way. Once you give up things like the right to privacy, it's impossible to get it back.

I will say this for you again jenji when you are in public u never have had a right to privacy. You are in public, people can see u and hear you therefore you had no privacy before cameras were installed. Your right to privacy hasn't been taken away because you never had privacy in public anyway.

Why would u expect to have privacy in a public place anyway?

I think the employees should be commended for being open-minded and being willing to investigate this scientifically. The executive director is the only one undermining public trust. I hope he resigns.

And paranormal activity happens. The most common is EVP (electronic voice phenomena). People will put up tape recorders in cemeteries, crime scenes, accident scenes, "haunted" houses, etc., and catch voices.

Phrases caught this way include:

"Get the f*** out!"
"You can't smoke here!"
"Ugh, plastic eyes."

Oh, the one on plastic eyes has a neat story. It seemed like the dearly departed was disgusted about something involving "plastic eyes" and one of the field investigators who recorded that onto tape decided to ask a mortician if that had any significance. The mortician claimed that using fake eyeballs were common practice in his line of work. One embalmed, the eyes lose their shape, so plastic eyes are put in to provide a more aesthetic appearance.
