I think there are probably a number of cancer genes. But a lot can still be prevented by lifestyle, behavior, and nutrition. Most Americans are vitamin D deficient, for instance. There were mixed results in some of the studies, but that is easy to explain. In some of the studies, the dose was not high enough. So if a good number of their subjects were quite deficient, and the study dosage takes it to the upper side of deficient, then the results might not be noticeably different from the placebo.

Positive attitude can help a lot too. So it is possible that worrying about dying of cancer might help cause it, for all we know.
