I don't know where or how that "myth" got
started but it's wrong.

It's not a myth. I went to a clinic with a friend of mine and she was on her fourth abortion. Who has said to me that if she got pregnant again, she'd have no problem with getting another abortion, that to her it was just another form of contraception. This was years before the morning after pill.
There are exceptions to every rule. Fortunately the exceptions are a small minority, I don't believe many women make such decisions lightly.

They get pregnant on welfare-give them an abortion,
then make sure they never get pregnant again and cut their welfare amount til the abortion is paid for.
HH
So, because Mama had an abortion, her existing children should go hungry or risk being homeless because Mama can't pay the rent? Welfare barely covers necessities as is. And Mama should be sterilized on top of it?? With all due respect HH, that's a extremely dumb idea.

To try to put myself in the other persons shoes.
In your friends case....she's just reprehensible.

I know it's controversial everywhere on the planet b/c
I've had this argument w/ppl from AU, NZ, Germany, the
UK...but I believe in legal mandatory sterilization.
For women who keep having one drug addicted baby after
another. Women who keep having and dumping kids like
it's an unwanted litter of kittens...
I don't think Everyone Should have the right to reproduce.

Correction....welfare doesn't cover the bills at all.

Girl, the dumb idea was to have the kids to begin with! Some just
to get a larger welfare check-you think those mothers give a damn about those kids-hell no!-it's just more money for their bad habits.
There's a daddy somewhere-where's his responsibility in this scenario-he needs his nuts cut out too!
It's time to get tuff before the world belongs to the few that
take advantage of "US" that do give a shit!

Again, I agree. My bff's niece, a meth addict, just had her 9th child. In cases like this and the above mentioned, women like that should be sterilized.

Too many women are having children they can't support and then it becomes a burden on taxpayers for the next 18 or 21 years. There are too many parents who are deadbeats when it comes to paying child support. For decades you had generations that were on the dole, only to receive welfare then they became eligible for social security. I would rather see my tax dollars pay for sterilization and abortions than be a burden on the system for 18 plus years.

My god daughter sounds just like your niece.
Except she has contracted HIV and passed it to 2
of her 3 unwanted drug addled babies that the
state took.
She'd be pregnant again (already) except that she
is back in jail for a long stretch of time.

I use a phone, HH, so Im really slow (Have to keep switching from desktop site to mobile site to personally reply), so please don't take my slow replies personally.
Of course we're still speaking.=)
We may not share the same opinion, but we can agree to disagree, no? ;0)

I'll never forget those women in that
clinic that day.

The 59 yr old was getting ready to turn
60 and thought she was going through
menopause. She'd had her tubes tied when
she was in her early 30s. No one ever
told her it was possible for the tubes
to grow back together.
Her health was too bad to carry a child.
She had talked to her dr at length about
ways to do it w/o an abortion but in the
end she couldn't have the child.

Which one? Your original statement sounded like a cover all.
In the second statement, the nut cutting was added. That was very fair of you.=) lol
But unless it's in extreme cases, I don't believe in mandatory sterization.

"Idiocracy" is happening!
The US is in deep trouble.

If welfare people have 8 kids starting at 15 and smart people have one or two starting at 30, the math is startling. Here's a 'cat pyramid' example-

This is only 2.8 surviving kittens per year-

One pair, about 12,000 babies in 9 years.

I wouldn't put too much stock in those figures.

I've seen 2 idiots spit out a genius and 2 geniuses
spit out a moron.
