was 6 y/o, like dogs I can't ever remember not having a gun around but times, they are a changin', and fast.
LOL I wasn't quite that young :)But yes they did a very quick flip flop didn't they. Yes I got a 22 for my 12th bday, that I still own:)
I saved for my 1st deer rifle & not the swat rifle that seems to make the headlines now,but a ruger no. 1 .243 that I had for yrs.
Ama bit cityfied now(unfortunately),but yes I have always owned & kept firearms also, in fact the only time I haven't ,was when I was in the Military lol lol .
Yes I I have priced some stinger 22's recently & almost lol when the guy told me the price & a 3 weeks wait:)
I will admit I have not loaded much ammo in about 5 yrs. but if I ever go back to shooting more ,I guess I will have no choice.
I have lee loaders because they were purchased whenever we bought a new barrel for contenders. I had NO IDEA until recently what some of that stuff is going for? also have odd shotgun gauges. so it was always easier to make a few.
Last thing I pressed was .410 shells for my "house" firearm, a rem 1100,modified a bit ,shortened barrel ,pistol grip, almost everything else is kept in a safe at a friends business.
Happy hunting . Rick

As a child I lived in E.Ky. and one learned at an early age, had to, it meant food on the table. Started with a .22 and the graduated to a 410 when I was about 9 or 10.
Most of my firearms are for home defense now as I do very little hunting anymore, still love to spank the Bunnies in the snow with the 20 ga., pheasants too but they're becoming rare here due to Coyotes and feral cats killing the chicks.

My "House Gun" is a Smith&Wesson, The Governor, versatile gun but them .45 shells are expensive, not too bad for the .410s tho.

I have a friend that reloads, does my 45-70 loads (Thompson Contender) at about a third of what I'd pay at an ammo store but I have to supply the Brass. He told.me that the price of reloading is gonna sky rocket as well due to new gov. regulations. Guess if they can't outlaw guns they're gonna drive the price of ammo so high that the sport shooter and hunter can't afford it, won't affect the gun toting criminal in the least as I doubt they shoot off a clip ina month. Its just another way of eroding our rights and controlling the masses.
Stock up if you can, things aren't gonna get better.
I've been loading for years now. I've got lots of bullets and even quite a bit of virgin brass from years of gathering so I'm lucky. I've been loading a lot of .22 hornets lately for my squirrel/rabbit hunting and for the trap lines so I can conserve on the rimfires. My advice for people is get the reload equipment as fast as you can. Next get a good .357 or .44 hell .41rem mag even and get the brass and primers. Bullets too but focus on having lots of brass and primers. If you got that you can always melt down some lead from car batteries. I load cast lead all the time made from batteries. Cheap and always available. Your .45-70 is a perfect candidate for this.

Yes understand, I actually posted that before I saw your post about the contender btw. I have several, honestly haven't played with them much in in a cpl. yrs. I fire .410 from a colt long barrel & is how I came to reload those .410's btw. I also use those 45 slugs for those ,along with fleccettes ,bb's "fun" things lol.
Yes I grew up bird huntin in ks. but also grew up on the western slope in Co.,so me & a lot of friends hunted for meat also.
Have never been a big handgun nut,but have owned a ruger mk1 & then a mk2 ,I still have both at home ,the mk. 2 is stainless with a bull barrel, they both prefer to fire those stinger rounds, the mk1 I sent to the factory to have "redone" serviced, it came back perfect.
I wished I was still just walkin down the tracks to go shootin when I wanted lol . I feel bad my poor daughter has no idea what that is about? btw just for fun ,somebody like you might appreciate :) I also have my GRANDMA'S model 12 winchester 20 ga.(refinshed) & her sears 10 ga. goose gun:). not sure where you live now, but I have spent a little time in Winchester cty. Ky. old friends still live there. Rick

How odd a gauge??? You talking 10, 16, 28 not as common gauges or you got some of those truly odd Euro gauges like 24 and 32

My first gun was a break action .22lr over .410 my old man purchased for me with money I saved mowing lawns. Told me I had to earn the money if I wanted my own gun.

Hi. No nice to see someone that knows something, it is NOT pc. correct now or so many true weirdo's ,i.e. people who should not even drive let alone be near firearms.
Nah. I just meant 16. ga.not that odd, & 28 ga. then an occasional 10 ga.,Have always owned a 20 ga. though in some form.
No the only "odd" ga. I actually ever saw was I believe the 24 ga. you referred to & it was worth a fortune ,it had damasscus barrels & and a Navy officer had it at a gun club I used to go in Va. Beach.
btw funny I also saved my paper route money for a gun :) Thanks Rick
