I know that! People that are my friends from Europe that that NYS was just NYC! They didn't know that there was a "countryside" of NYS. People from NYC don't even care about upstate, anything north of the Yonkers city line is just rolling hills and hillbilly towns to them. But the sad truth is, money that comes from NYC tourists goes to the State as a whole, so pretty much what I'm trying to say is NYC is the state's main vacation.
NYC is a big reason NYS is broke. We support NYC. NYC doesn't support us. The rest of us would be so much better off if we gave NYC away. I say let NJ have it. Keep the compost pile together.

We would be better. NYC brings nothing but problems and the rest of NY pays for it.
We just get their power lines, their criminals, and trash.

Their criminals especially! It seems like every month someone is pulled over on the Northway, and they're always hauling drugs to an upstate city or to Canada.

If NYC didn't exist than NYS would be boring! Tourists from all over the world come here to see NYC, and spend lots of money that can benefit the whole state. Like how many tourists would come to the state if NYC didn't exist? Like none... I mean think about it, a million tourists came last night to see the ball drop in Times Square, if that wasn't there, like no tourists would come here...

So what?? A million tourist come and the rest of NYS pays for it. NYS is going broke because of the expense of NYC.
NYS has Lake Ontario, Lake Champlain, Finger Lakes, Adirondacks, Catskills, Thousand Islands, Allegheny region. NYS boring without NYC? Not at all. NYS just better well off without the leech on it. Not to mention the jack-ass politicians like Schumer and Cuomo NYC brings us.

I like NYC because it has so much more diversity and stuff to offer than upstate cities! If upstate cities would pay attention to the wants of the public, I'm sure more people would like cities like Buffalo and Albany...I don't know buffalo very well, but I know Albany doesn't have much to offer besides the state museum, the plaza, and the TUC. New York City has so much more like museums, plenty of entertainment, dining, icons...the only icon of Albany is really the Capitol and the Corning tower, while NYC has so many!

As you can tell I rant a lot

I like Chicago better than NYC. They both offer a lot in terms of culture, nightlife, restaurants, museums, architecture, but NYC is filthy. Of course, I'm biased.

The only "filthy" place in NYC is a bit of the Bronx! I mean sometimes trash can collect on the streets, but street sweepers clean it up eventually. Living in a city with 8 million other people can make it filthy, but it is always cleaned up. But I don't know exactly what you mean by filthy, so why don't you tell me!

You just named many of the reasons I find so boring. Cities suck. People living like the cockroaches they try to rid their buildings of.
To each their own.

Several times. Hated more each time. Rochester is to much city life for me as it is. Too many people crowded into a way to small of a place.
Not to mention I hate the place because they get all our money and representation but it doesn't contribute anything to the state really.
