Alana Nicole Sholar was born as Alan Sholar in 1961. One of three brothers, Alan was part of a close-knit, church-going family who lived and worked on several now-famous horse farms in the Bluegrass region of central Kentucky.
After years of lonely struggle with gender confusion and self-acceptance, Sholar legally changed his name from Alan to Alana Nicole in 2005, an important step in a lifelong journey of gender discovery–a journey that is documented in the engaging memoir, Hung in the Middle.
Hung in the Middle: A Journey of Gender Discovery is Alana Nicole Sholar’s fascinating, heart-wrenching life story–a story full of real-life lessons of gender diversity in 20th century rural America, and a story about searching for, and finding, true love.

Some see it that away while others chose to look beyond the surface. Of course not everyone will agree but each has there rights to opion regardless of how hurtful it can be to others. Thanks for responding and I wish you the best.

Hey Doc,

No need to be sorry!!! I take everything as it comes,if I were afraid of being hurt I would not post. Your cool and I respect all for there opinions. I viewed your remark as a good question and was more then happy to answer you.

How can I expect other people to understand what being transgender is like when half the time I don't understand it myself.....Hugs and best wish's

When-@ what age did you "really" know?
What influenced your thinking?
Who & when did you 1st share this with?
What were your 1st sexual experiences?
(mentally & physically)?

“What?”

All of your questions are VERY good ones....If you wish to know the answers all of it is in my book which can be found at www.hunginthemiddle.com ...I will answer one of your questions here.....I was 8 years old when I felt something was wrong with me. However at eight years old how are you supposed to know that your going to be what some may see as a freak. I tried for years to hold it in and even went as far as putting my car into a tree hoping death would fix my problem......I never got so much as a bruise just a wrecked car.
