Funny to see the thread title.
I've been thinking about doing a
barn red w/a lighter shade of grey
in different quantities throughout
the house.
On top of hardwood floors.

A sales guy at a nice furniture shop
told me recently that when it comes to
red ppl either love it or hate it...so
be damn sure you love it b/f you change
things to that scheme.

I'm thinking I love it. Esp since the
focal point of the LR is a fireplace made
of the original brick from the late 1800s.

Any thoughts?

( I like country/primitive art but also
good reproductions of Monet and I think
both would go well)

Red isn't my color at all. It's too stimulating. Personally, I like things that are more relaxing colors.

I've seen people decorate with red, and I like it, but I just don't think *I* could live with it.

On the Monet vs primitive art thing--you know, that's the joy of decorating. Sometimes the more unexpected something is, the better it goes with the decor.

Sounds like your on the right track... Just a suggestion?...
The right shade of Red goes well with a warm shade of light Grey. You could always mix the grey with a splash of beige to give it a warm feeling...:)
*Hope that helps.

My Section 8 Housing is a little drab, but I watch HGTV everyday to get ideas to spruce it up. When I'm not watching LOGO or posting on Topix, that is. Do pink lace curtains sound like a good idea?
Did you see the HGTV series on recycling? You'd like the one that showed how to turn used meth cooking containers into hydroponic marijuana gardens.

When we built the house, our kitchen, living room, dining room is built together--sort of an "L" shape. Because I was inheriting an antique sideboard for the dining room, we matched the wood grain in the sideboard to the wood grain in the cabinets. No paint there--just oak. Painted cabinets would be nice for a change, but after all the trouble we went to in getting them--I'm not about to paint them....

the open floor plan sounds great as do the cabinets...the stairs/stairwell is between my LR/kitchen...grrr...at times I wish my cabinets & trim had just been stained but what a job to strip them all now!...as some of you already know, not even a shower...antique claw foot tubs in both baths...wish I could see pix of the interior when it was built 70+ yrs ago...when we moved in the old lady next door shared a few stories with me ...
