The PUBLIC owns the airwaves and the FCC grants licenses to broadcasters with the understanding they will serve the public interest.
Free WiFi exists in almost every major city in the U.S.. This Wiki article will explain how it this paid for. It also gives a list of WiFi hot spots, globally.

"It is the purpose of the First Amendment to preserve an uninhibited marketplace of ideas in which truth will ultimately prevail, rather than to countenance monopolization of that market, whether it be by the Government itself or a private licensee. It is the right of the public to receive suitable access to social, political, esthetic, moral, and other ideas and experiences which is crucial here. That right may not constitutionally be abridged either by Congress or by the FCC."

We can't afford anything free from the government :)

I think we all have a vivid imagination on just what your "lifestyle" is.
You deepest desire for me to live the lifestyle you want doesn't make it my reality.

Global Warming. Even if it did exist, China and other "developing" nations in the region will never, and I emphasize never, take steps to clean up their act, so what's the point? I'm tired of this jackass spending money we just don't have. If libs want all of this horseshit, let them take up a collection and pay for it themselves.

Actually, going "green" doesn't always have to cost you money. I have a solar panel set on my house. For a 4-bedroom ranch, my electric bill averages only $56 a month. They paid for themselves within the first year. Plus, there was a nice tax deduction. They don't do all the work, but as a comparison, my brother's house is a 3-bedroom and his electric bill is $375 a month. He's putting in a solar set this summer.

I have solar panels too. Amazing difference in the electric bill.

HOWEVER, lol...when it comes to recycling...f*ck that!!!

I did some contracting for the suburb I live in a year ago. I visited their recycling center and they had "bums" seperating the trash. I mean, why take the time to seperate all that crap when they have some guy down there doing it again - and I'm paying his wages!

My garbage pick is only every other week. Recyclables however get picked up every week, both blue bin (glass/plastic/cans/paper etc.) and green bin (food waste). If I want the waste out of my house every week, I have to recycle it.

I have a solar water heater. My house is green certified (gold).

In one place I lived, we were told to separate our garbage. We had three different cans clearly marked. One day I say the garbage truck and was where I could see them. They dumped each container into the same place in the back of the truck!
Actually the government shouldn't offer anything free to anyone.

its all paid for by the taxpayers. That's US !!! Usually the people receiving the free stuff don't pay taxes.

Why would anyone think wifi should be?
Now that their phones are free, that's sort of cuts into your argument somewhat.

The popular thinking these days is everything ought to be free and given freely. We used to call that charity and most people were far too proud to accept it from any source, least of all the government. The government gives nothing for free. There is always a string attached.
