To start with, you can put the ladder away in the garage where he can't get to it.

True,
NO ONE should ever trust or feel they
'know' a dog, their thinking follows
very different rules indeed.. and they can
'turn' at a moment's notice..ie
my dog thinks motor bikes and vacuum cleaners
are a type of loud animal!!
I know by his reaction,
she sees the headlights of a motor bike as EYES(:
I feel if they are treated in a fair manner..
with a mix of love and good discipline,
it'll be ok.
I didn't mean for my response to be taken in the context you put it in. All I was trying to say is that a first puppy for somebody can be an exasperating challenge to somebody without any previous dog raising experience. I never intended to imply that all dogs are the same and that one can always successfully use the same methodology on all dogs as different dogs do have different levels of learning ability and compliance. Bottom line is that one should never let a dog intimidate them in any way. If that ever happens, the dog will have trained you rather than the other way around.

We bought our first dog. He is an Austrailian dog. He spends a lot of time on the roof of our house. Lately, however, when the mail is relivered, Wally jumps down off the roof and tries to Billy-Bong the mailman. Should we too, be concerned about a possible deficiency in Wally's standard Purina diet?
I thought you had another dog with short legs and a long body and a long tail that you got in Florida that had an appetite for cats.

<quoted text>Purina contains a lot of grain fillers and much of it is highly indigestable corn meals. Dog's digestive systems are not designed for digesting grains of any type. Next time you go to the supermarket, look at the packages for some of the better known brands of Dog food carried by all the Supermarkets and check the first ingredient listed. In most cases, it is ggound corn which is no damned good for any carnivore, canine or otherwise. You will also find that meat by-products are listed ahead of meat which means that real meat is only a very small percentage of the actual make up of most dry dog and cat food. There is not enough space to get into all the issues so I will leave you these links:

I read above with interest,

I don't buy dog food in the Supermarkets,
a vet advised me against doing so,Earlier on.

I feed my dog on ROYAL CANIN [for lab/collie cross]
Although expensive, I believe this food VERY well researched
and caters for individually breeds every need.

What you said was very interesting indeed..
thank you sincerely
for posts and links.

I suggest purchasing a slingshot for when he climbs up onto the roof. He'll eventually learn NOT to do that.

Your last "dog" before this one fit the description of an alligator.
