IN -- born and raised to late teens. Driving trips to visit relatives in KY, VA at KY border, OH, and MI expanded my little world. Nearest to border country was in Wyandotte, MI as Canada is across Detroit River. Late teen out of high school -- driving to OH and IL to legally drink 3.2 beer. First plane ride to Cedar Rapids IA.

MO -- first full-time job in metro St. Louis. Driving excursions to IA and Tulsa, OK passing through corner of KS.

Back in IN -- fly to TX for an "extended vacation" at the behest of Uncle Sam.

IL -- post-basic advanced training assignment.

NJ -- permanent duty assignment. Driving in PA, NY, NYC; plus a trip to Cape Cod through CT and RI.

"back home again in IN" -- Chicago trips via South Shore Railroad. Driving in OH, IL, KY. Plane trips to CO, PA, TX, and FL.

Was there for a convention.

I don't think you don't need Yelp there.

We were picking places at random and all of them were good.

And if you decide to take a swamp tour, get one that uses an airboat. Those things can go anywhere.

(Good thing our operator married a PA woman. His Cajun accent was so thick and fast I was only picking up 1 out of 3 words.)

Wow.

I'm just trying to set foot in all 50 states but you are well on the way for something I never thought about (and now that I did, could not be done without a lot of planning): drawing a paycheck from all 50 states.

And the Golden Shellback is a hoot. Were you able to deliberately do that or was a matter of circumstance?

Forgot to include the longest family driving trip when I was a little kid. My dad drove an elderly aunt to FL -- St. Petersburg/Bradenton area to live the rest of her years. It was significant:

1. Got to see the Sarasota Winter home for Ringling Bros. Circus.

2. as a little kid, was in sheer terror traversing the old two-line Sunshine Skyway bridge over Tampa Bay. As an adult, I remember two different dream experiences involving way high bridges over way-expansive waters and anxiety about it.

3. at a grocery store, our family of 4 (with brother) simultaneously used adjacent water fountains before finding out they were separated for "whites" and "colored". Remembered Dad noting the dirty looks we got ('as northern agitators' I guess)-- though he was a frequent user of the 'n'-word and later "progressed" from being a Kennedy man to a G.W. Wallace man.

I remember as a kid, one of my brothers took us younger kids down the shore, then on the way home - somehow he got lost and was heading to new York, what should have been maybe a 2 hr drive - end up being 6 hrs.
talk about a LONG trip! lol
:0
but we never got to go anywhere - dad didn't drive when he was alive, and mom never learned to afterwards. so it actually was a great trip..

Well, that long trip was special!

During my time in NJ, went to Atlantic City twice [pre-casinos so some of the old hotels were still there]. Either during one of those trips, or a different one drove up to the north end of Long Beach (?) to see Barnegat(sp?) Lighthouse.

Also intentionally went to NYC on a Sunday so I could drive up Broadway. Thank Gawd it WAS a Sunday ... and I vowed that I wouldn't drive in NYC again, and didn't!

Who appointed you the arbiter of what the appropriate answer is?

It's only "bragging" to you because the farthest you've traveled is to the trailer park in the next town over and for this reason are easily impressed.
