'hello. I'd love a bag of chips. thanks.'

-thats my latest poem. Its called 'chips'. Please reply with feedback.(im going for a more modernist/minimalist stance- ive decided to leave the hallmark card rhyming couplets behind me and to move into some more abstract work.

Here is just one other example that ive been working on for the past 3 weeks or so:

'The cat made a noise. He must be hungry, or else he is cold. Perhaps he wants to go outside. I may never know; for I am not the cat.'

That one is called 'I am not the cat'

Thanks everyone- and please be honest.

I have always enjoyed your poetry Grace and in honor of your minimalist new style I dedicate this one to you...

Wordsmith...

The Wordsmith pounds out poetry..
The Pen a sledge, the paper an anvil
The finished work... A thing of beauty...

Over my head, Gracie. But so is most everything else here. Being naive, ignorant, and thick is a full time job. Just think of me as the old dawg tied to the tree in the front yard. People come, and people go. I'll perk up my ears, wag my tail, and hope someone speaks to me. But mostly I wonder what it is all about.....

You keep doin' what YOU like. THAT is what matters.

Hello!!
I must say I'd love to take full credit for this
unusual and imaginative take on 'poetry'
but fact is, it is my own Grandson's work!
He wrote it LOL

He first asked me,

'are you still writing those
Hallmark type predictable verses,
which all sounds the same'
then he took over my laptop and started this thread!!

I was greatly amused with the various responses,
and think we have something different here LOL..
ANYONE who feels like joining in is more than
welcome, if they care to express their hidden talents.

Can't wait to see entries from,
WBR, DUH, All the folks on 'A STORY in 4 LETTERS'..

Rods1, Brainstorm, Untouchable Kitty etc.
and...

and on the 'FINISH THE SENTENCE'
Missing Goldfish, Billy R..

all of the above provide a good imagination
and a good laugh

and EVERYONE else.

The man made a noise. He must be hungry, or

outside. I may never know because he is not explicit.
The cat made a noise. I knew exactly what he wanted.
I speak his language.
Therefore, I am cat.

And every where that Mary went,

When I was young I
told someone this rhyme,
which I'd heard somewhere else,
my young 'friend' always used it as a weapon,
against me IF
she wanted to make use out of me,

by threatening to tell the NUN! LOL!
and .. it worked for a while!!!

Here it is..

" Mary had a wooden leg,
With her i used to linger.
'how did you know about her wooden leg'?

'I got a splinter in my finger"

LOL when I think of it NOW!

The Ballad of Mr. McNear

Way down in a hollow,
much deeper than wide,
old man McNear
just up and died.

The old man was Crazy
and had been for years.
He'd kick and stomp,
Holler and Jeer.

Kept Froth on his mouth
and a straggly Beard,
hair on his back
and dirt in his ears.

He greeted visitors
on the front step.
Very few ever left
that hadn't stopped and wept.

People intruded,
Felt old man Mcnear.
The town folks knew
to steer him clear.

Rue Pearl, now a widow,
picks at her seam,,
Gnawing her Pipe,
coughing up phlegm.

She just sits and rocks,
the slats squeak beneath.
she blows and Snorts,
and spits out her teeth.

The young ones afeared
Swore someday he'd return
to his Homestead
deep in the Ferns.

Many will claim that
they've seen his face
Screaming out loud
down by his place.

That he screamed and howled,
he jumped and chased
young johnny that night,
of him leaving not a trace.

And on the Darkest of nights
you can him clear,
Screw u,
I am the Ghost of old man McNear.
