Correction - the National Transportation Safety Board is officially recommending that the threshold for being too drunk to legally drive be lowered from a .08 blood-alcohol content to .05.

The National Safety Council (NSC) is a nonprofit, nongovernmental public service organization dedicated to protecting life and promoting health in the United States of America.

In some European countries they say it has lowered alcohol-related deaths (re: driving) by 50%.

Not sure redneck America is ready for such a change - especially when you consider it'll be federally mandated. Can you just imagine the snivelling from this law change?

Afterall, it's our God-given right to drink and drive and kill innocent people, dammit!!!

My suggestion is that there be a two tiered system for alcohol impaired driving. Any level of alcohol in one's system, no matter how small, has been found to put drivers at an increased risk, but I would say that between let's say .05 and .08% the penalties should be less than those over .08%. I would call .05 to .08% impaired driving and over .08% drunk driving. Yes, I will concede that the risk is very negligible for trace amounts of alcohol, but the plain fact is that the risk increases slightly with every small increase in blood alcohol level.

Topix would only allow a title up to a certain length which would make your suggested title to lengthy to fit in the space allowed, but I do endorse what you had to say.

First of all - because it's wrong. Second of all, 99% of all Topix posters wouldn't have the kahunas to post the crap they post on here without at least a fifth of vodka firat.

You can't be this ignorant in real life.

<quoted text>Wouldn't any impairment from drinking, even lowered to .05, be considered dangerous for driving? Is the lessening of driving skills the same at .05 or .08 for everyone? Are some "more" drunk than others even at the same identical level? Just askin

Liberals the entire country over are for legalizing the use of drugs. How do you think THAT will play out for the precious "public safety" your esteemed government, according to you, is so worried about????
