Thanks from the bottom of our hearts go to the Men and Women serving abroad and here at home, we should all take a moment this Veterans day to reflect on the Sacrifices the common Soldier is making to protect this Great country. Regardless of political and religious veiws, without these great Warriors we'd have neither.
And to those who have already served goes the biggest debt of Gratitude, without you great men and women this great Nation wouldn't be what she is today. May peace and happiness find all our Vets if only for a moment. And to all the Military wives and familes, know that you're in our thoughts and prayers as well, many, many thanks for your sacrifices also. If you can help a wounded Warrior please do so, even if its only time you have to spare. |

On this Veterans Day, my thoughts are with all who served with Honor, especially the dwindling numbers who served in WWII. I believe my life as a free American would not have been possible without their values of Duty, Honor, Country and the sacrifices they made.

Most people are proud to see a military man, whether they have a relative who served or not. They represent all that is honorable and patriotic, and they are dedicated to our great country. Too many have died for us.
I appreciate their service. |

DESTINY Time flies when you’re having fun So it seems to appear to some The days and months drift swiftly by Not thinking about the where or why Seasons come and seasons go First the spring and then the snow The autumn leaves so crisp and bright Fall to earth upon the dead of night They lay piled upon the ground Winds blowing briskly making crackling sounds Frosty mornings make for hearty souls Breath blowing crystals during the morning stroll Winding roads through fields of stone That God-awful feeling of being alone Footprints crunching upon sacred ground Creaking trees are the only sounds The mind dims and the memory fades Thoughts once flourishing no longer parade And the drums grow silent near the amber grass While reaching for the marker just beyond my grasp The epitaph read,“This Marine served well He left his home and family, to serve in hell He fought not for fortune, nor fleeting fame.” Then as I touched the stone I saw my name Was I truly the last to know? Was this the destiny of the autumn stroll? Could this be, am I insane? Did I live my whole life in vain? I stood bewildered upon the grave Not wanting to run, not wanting to stay Then others like me gathered round this place I saw more than one familiar face Countless friends lost in a war torn land I hugged their necks I shook their hands We formed our ranks and we stood up straight And then marched a-shoutin’ through the pearly gates ©Copyright October 8, 2005 by Richard D. Just make sure we get our rememberances straight:
Memorial Day - Remembering and honoring those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom. Veteran's Day - Remembering and honoring those who served our proud nation. Armed Forces Day - Honoring all of active troops in all services. |

I had a Marine buddy that was a stickler for detail and hated it when someone would say, "Thank you for your service" on Memorial Day. Me? It really doesn't matter - afterall, the dead don't care anymore and all of us old timers are too old to give a sh!t...lol But on a common note, I think we all can be grateful someone stayed the watch so that the rest of us could sleep in peace. |

EMPTY BOOTS Walk a mile in another man’s boots? I don’t think it’s possible. Yeah we have pounded the same ground. … but each journey is different. In Vietnam, each man walked his own destiny. … Destiny maps out longevity. Unlike men, Boots were alike for sure. Black leather Green canvas… Caked with red mud … But the man, The Soldier … often lay Caked with red Blood. The Warrior experiences War. … War will suffocate the experience of life. … Boots are removed. The journey has ended for the man. … Even so … His boots remain, Age has no effect. … His journey continues in the hearts Of the Brothers of war. The boots are empty. … But our hearts are full We continue to walk in sorrow. Alas, we could not walk in freedom If not for the empty boots. ©Copyright March 9, 2002 by Richard D. Preston |
