COPIED THIS FROM A FACEBOOK PAGE

This morning I am on my soap box! I’ve been called redneck, white trash, goober, cracker, honey, darlin’ and many other things during my life but I have never been called unpatriotic. I firmly believe that after 9/11 when everyone wanted to find Osama Bin Laden so badly that they should’ve sent about 20 or so rednecks from the hills in Arkansas and it would’ve all been over in a week. Having said that, you must understand that its because they all believe in this country, our flag and our freedoms just as our military does.

If there is one thing rednecks won’t stand for, its unpatriotic fucktards knocking our military. My family is largely a military family going way back to WWI and I just can’t stand shit talking about them or their brothers and sisters in arms. I am so tired of listening to people bitch about our soldiers. Tearing them down, trying to demean what they are doing and generally being idiotic because they do not believe in what is going on overseas right now. To those people, I say GROW THE FUCK UP! You don’t agree with our government? Fine. You don’t believe we should be at war? Fine. You think our troops should be brought home? Fine. You want to trash the government on every site on the internet every chance you get? Fine. All of that is fine but open your big dumbo ears for a moment and listen closely because there is something I want you to hear. Are you ready? DO NOT EVER CONFUSE OUR MILITARY WITH OUR GOVERNMENT!!!

The men and women of the armed services are not elected officials. They are not pocketing lobbyist money to run with their own agenda. They are not sitting behind some cushy desk thinking of ways to fuck you while making their lives better. They volunteered to protect you. They are the reason that you can open your uneducated mouth and spew shit all over the place. They are the reason that you do not have to cower behind crumbling buildings in fear for your lives on a daily basis. They are the reason that you still have the ability to vote. They are the reason that you have access to food, clothing, clean water, medical treatment, can make your own choices and can go wherever you want in the country/world without having to get permission. Do you think that they are over in Afghanistan reading your crap on Facebook thinking,“I really don’t like that guy so I’ll just fight for everybody else today.”? NO! They leave their families, friends, unborn children and go to the other side of the world to ensure that you are still legally allowed to be a moron every moment of your miserable life. They go without food, sleep, contact with their families and friends, live in shit holes and are in the most ridiculous conditions known to man so that you can talk crap about everything that they sacrifice for you.
I get so steamed when I read all the crap people say about our military online. I think the point that I am trying to make is that disagreeing with the government and politicians is fine but our military men and women have only done one thing…their jobs! So talk smack about Obama, Holder, Clinton and whoever you want to but leave our military out of it.

Every day when you wake up and get out of bed I want you to remember that you had a bed to sleep in last night because there is a soldier somewhere hunkered down in the dirt with 70 pounds of gear on to make sure that you stay safe while you sleep. They are forever changed because of their service to this country. Be thankful for what you have and for those who protect it.

SUPPORT OUR TROOPS!

YOUNG MEN

Young Men old before their time
With hollow eyes and vacant stare
So many days of constant fear
So many friends no longer there

Those same young men now truly old
Their ranks grow thinner every day
They’re getting ready to rejoin
The ones who died, who’ll show the way

Some battles never seem to end
And other end with just a sigh
But these young men have seen it all
And face their fate, and never cry

Now others young will take their place
And learn to face another’s death
To feel the thrill,“I’m still alive”
And still feel sorrow with their breath

There’ll always be young men grown old
The ones who faced our country’s foe
With memories scarred for ever more
Oh God! Oh God! Must it be so?

I know it's been posted before, but I thought it needed to be again!

It is the
VETERAN,
not the preacher,
who has given us freedom of religion.

It is
the VETERAN,
not the reporter,
who has given us freedom of the press.

It is
the VETERAN,
not the poet,
who has given us freedom of speech.

It is
the VETERAN,
not the campus organizer,
who has given us freedom to assemble.

It is
the VETERAN,
not the lawyer,
who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the
VETERAN who
salutes the Flag,

It is the VETERAN
who serves
under the Flag.

Honor Our Military

Let's honor our military,
The men and women who serve,
Whose dedication to our country
Does not falter, halt or swerve.
Let's respect them for their courage;
They're ready to do what's right
To keep America safe,
So we can sleep better at night.
Let's support and defend our soldiers,
Whose hardships are brutal and cruel,
Whose discipline we can't imagine,
Who follow each order and rule.
Here's to those who choose to be warriors
And their helpers good and true;
They're fighting for American values;
They're fighting for me and you.

The Eagles of America Stand

Our Eagles of America still stand, more than any land.
There in Iraq, they stand and some go to the Heavenly band.
Their motto is; America is worth fighting for; their love.
I know our Lord watches o’er them, from Heaven above.

Some wounded, some die there and again some come home.
Some see the death of friends and feel so all alone.
I pray God to protect these American eagles every day.
He is their maker; He is their Redeemer all the long way.

We pray for you all, men and women of the USA today.
I know before you go into battle; you kneel down and pray.
We stand behind you here; we gladly cheer you all on.
Soon we pray that our God in Heaven will bring you home.

We are so in awe of your strength and stamina to stand.
Knowing in an instant (you could be killed), for this land.
It is your land Eagles, of the USA; you are the very best.
Who are the others in the world that could take this test?

I pray all of you know we are with you one hundred percent
When Uncle Sam called, you fluffed those wings and went.
God bring back our people soon; we ask in Jesus name.
Keep them all safe dear Lord; let none be crippled nor maimed.

PROUD MOM OF A SOLDIER

I get up and ask myself with each passing day
What is my soldier doing today?
It’s the unknown questions I can’t help but ask,
Is he fighting, or building, or doing some other task?

Are he and his battle buddies holding up to the stress?
Is he saddened by our nation’s fear and distressed?
I know all that I taught him makes sense to him now
How could his purpose be questioned somehow?

He clings to our country and our God whom he loves
War is the hand and freedom the glove
I love him and speak of him with unending pride
With each load that he bares, I pray by his side

When I’m scared the Lords spirit fills me to say
Rest easy dear mother I’m with him each day
When he enlisted we all sat down and agreed
We saw the big picture, we knew the great need

I think of every soldier as they toil through their days
Fighting for us is the highest of praise
All who’ve known war whisper “I too know your pain”
But there’s too much to loose and too much to gain

My son wants to come home, but not till the mission is done
It’s never been in his nature to just cut and to run
He tells me with conviction that’s as strong as the thunder
“no more sifting through Pentagon and twin towers rubble”

He knew the stories of when I was young
Who was this “Hitler” and what had he done?
I would tell him the answers were shrouded and hazy
I guessed that the world didn’t care and was lazy

I’m compelled to shout out to the doubters and liars
“It’s easy to complain, serving selfish desires”
If your world is fruitful and safe and sound
Get down on your knee’s and start kissing the ground

I hold firm to convictions and will never yield
To do less would disgrace all who’ve died on the field
When flight 93 had to make their great choice
From a hole each screamed sacrifice with a soldier’s great voice

All you nay-sayers drink and enjoy your cocktails on me
My son’s eating dirt so that you can be free
Criticize all you want, we believe in your right
Just remember my son is fighting your fight!

You might say that I don’t know your great loss
But my family’s paid blood, and knows the great cost
My cousin died in ‘69 for a buddy in “Nam”
And his sacrifice then made me who I am

Yes I’m scared for my son
Any parent would be
But he enlisted last August
So his mom remains free!

What does the American Flag Stand For?

The American flag is the flag that brought Black people to this country in chains, buying and selling them as slaves. Many of those 13 stripes on the flag stand for slave states.

And where did those stars come from? Many of them represent states stolen from Mexico in an unprovoked, unjust war of conquest to extend the U.S. empire, and within that the slave states in the South.

This is the flag carried into battle by the U.S. Cavalry as it carried out genocide against the Native Americans, murdering, burning and pillaging a bloody trail across the country.

This is the flag that invaded and conquered Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Philippines, killing hundreds of thousands in 1898.

This is the flag that killed two million in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia with napalm, carpet bombing, death squads and village massacres.

This is the flag that twice made war on the people of Iraq, invading and occupying, killing hundreds of thousands.

The American flag is the flag that proclaims the right to go anywhere in the world and invade any country that it claims is a potential threat to the U.S.

This is the flag that economically dominates and devastates vast areas of the globe, ruining the lives of billions.

This is the flag that holds thousands of people in Guantánamo and secret prisons throughout the world, proclaiming the right to torture and jail them forever.

And this is the flag over prisons that hold two million people, many of them Black and Latino, mostly for the crime of being hungry, poor, and desperate.

This is the flag of U.S. imperialism and its global empire. Even the rights and freedoms this system brags about—to the extent they are anything but total lies—are built on the blood and bones of those they murder and work to death here and around the world to create the prosperity you see in la jaula de oro.
Jealous? Proud American here! USA all the way,'nuff said.

MOURNING’S BLACK VEIL

Children sent to war
Aged but a score
Never really knowing
What they are dying for
Unaware of grandiose schemes
Only of dim political themes

And so it was in our land
A decade or so ago
America’s line of heroes
Sent out to die
As the drums did roll
To seek the vibrant souls
Of all those gallant young men
Fair and dark
Forfeit of freedom of life and limb
Falling in conflicts of terror
In jungle slime so dark and dim
When the drums of war did roll

While wives and mothers wait
Weeping. weeping
Sons’ and Fathers’ fate
Ah. You greedy bastards of war
Feral spawnings of the whore
Count your silver tithes
And hear not Mothers wail
nor see desolate wives
in mourning’s black veil

©Copyright Friday June 13, 1986 by Charles J. Prusik

Author’s Note: The above poem, Mourning’s Black Veil took me three years to write, mainly because I could not find an ending to it. that is until the day of one of the first “Welcome Home” parades was staged on Friday the 13th of June 1986 in Chicago, Illinois.

The parade began at the old Navy Pier, passed down Michigan Ave. with cheering crowds and ticker tape, and finally ended at Grant Park. There, the parade organizers had brought the Moving Wall to Chicago.

I was looking for panel 31 east when I noticed a lady with an arm full of roses, all dressed in black, and wearing a mourning veil. She was going from one panel to the next, where she would lay a rose at the base of the panel, kneel, and say a prayer, then got up and repeated the process at the next panel.

Then I realized I had the ending for this poem. For to me, she represented every mother, wife, girlfriend, or woman who had ever seen her man off into harms way and had lost him to some petty social/political whim.

HAVE YOU LIVED?

You look at me and my decisions in life.
The look of concern and sadness gives me a chuckle.
I have my reasons and they are clear to me.
Death holds no sway for me, for
I have lived more lives in this one lifetime
Than you will live in a millennium.

I have lived the lover’s life
Full of wooing the beautiful and a heart filled with sorrow
For those that have left and those that are no more.

I have walked the warrior’s path
I have been to the four corners of this terrestrial plane.
I have seen the lowliest of men rise to the glory of gods,
And I have seen the born noble cower and cringe at the sight of battle.

I have spoken the philosophers tongue
I felt life, for I have lived many. I know why I was put here
I know the gods of men; I have seen the basic instinct of the primal
Chaos and Order are two lovers that will never share the same bed.

I have been the father and I have been the son
Full Circle of the origins and the end
Two of the opposites making the one

I am the elder
I have felt the cold clasp of age
And to me it is nothing but an eventual ending to a long story.

To myself I have been true,
Old words to an old song,
I have filled my life well with many things
Many I cherish, and many I despise.
But they are mine and mine alone
Do not condemn me or idolize me.
Look to yourself and what you have before you.
And ask
Have you lived?
