THE WIFE OF A WARRIOR

War leaves its mark on the souls and the minds,
Of Warriors who fight and families left behind.
Hearts bear the burdens of worry and prayer,
Hiding our fears while showing we care.

Children miss daddies and mamas so much,
Who’ll fix their bikes or soothe cuts with their touch?
Mothers and Fathers will struggle and pray,
Holding each other and leaning on faith.

Then, there’re the wives of our Warriors who know,
The day’s fast approaching when her husband will go.
She cherishes each moment and hides all the pain,
Holding him closer as he boards that airplane.

She drives home so slowly, not wanting to hear,
The sounds of its silence she’ll know for a year.
Her life quickly changes, nothing’s her own;
A computer stands idle as she clings to the phone.

She seldom goes out, lest she misses the chime,
That signals her husband if finally online!
A wife wears his shirts to breathe in his smell;
She slowly descends into war’s lonely hell.

If she is lucky, friends will come ‘round,
Extending the offer of a ‘night on the town’.
She’ll search every web site for others who miss,
Hugs from their warriors and his soft, gentle kiss.

Packages are sent with things he will need,
A Warrior’s wife comes from a very special breed.
She pays all the bills, takes care of the kids,
Learns how to change tires like he always did.

Then, nights will come quickly as she lies on their bed,
Holding the pillow where once lay his head.
Tears often come as she traces her hand,
Spilling so softly on a gold wedding band.

“Lord, how I need You, but he needs You more,
Watch over my husband, the child You died for.
Send him home safely, soon I do pray,
May this wife of a Warrior make it through one more day.”

THROUGH A WARRIOR’S EYES

They say that a photo can capture the glow,
Of heartbreaks and sorrows that no one else knows.
There’s laughter and sparkles of love’s fiery hue,
A rainbow of colors from the life paths we choose.

One glimpse in the eyes of a battle scarred man
Will never leave doubt he gives all that he can.
He’s seen many horrors in the bowels of hell,
His soul holds sad sagas, and there’s no one to tell.

Somewhere in a jungle or on patrol with his men,
He made deals with the devil and would do it again.
For God and his Country, he’d lay down his life,
His soul’s mostly empty, but his heart’s full of pride.

We can’t ask him questions for the answers aren’t cheap,
You don’t want to see his sorrows buried deep.
The nightmares and demons he can’t run away from,
At times he grows weary of the man he’s become.

Don’t hold it against him when his anger bursts through,
It’s his pain and anguish for the Brothers he once knew.
Each has a name that he easily recalls,
For he died beside them when they gave their all.

His eyes are shadowed with the high cost they paid;
The memories go with him when they open his grave.
His family knows best when to push or let go,
For they’ve watched his hair turn white as new snow.

My Brothers and Sisters, you’ve served us with pride,
We’re here when you need us, not just along for the ride.
Our arms are wide open and our hearts we do share,
We’ll never forsake you in your hours of despair.

One day may you look in the mirror and see,
You’ve made peace with your demons, and now you are free.
The Warrior you are is who each of us love;
We’ll never forget the ones we’re proud of.

Really? Actually "married" to them all, was she? How many did Liz Taylor have? I think she had the record at a dozen or so.

‘TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS

‘Twas the night before Christmas, across this great land,
We slept safe in our beds while they patrolled in the sand.
They’d been up since dawn, their mission’s complete,
Coffee and rations, some mail they would read.

Lieutenant had told them today they might call,
Loved ones back home who missed them above all.
Mail call brought smiles, gifts Mom had made,
Letters from girls and photos from babes.

Someone got cookies; another had snacks,
A splash of good whiskey from a hidden gold flask.
Stories were told of Christmas back home,
Most Soldiers joined in, while some sat all alone.

The Chaplain stopped by, they all joined in prayer,
Carols sang softly in the cold desert air.
Each settled in for a restless night’s sleep,
“Forgive me dear Lord, sometimes it’s too deep.

I chose to be here, my Country I serve well,
With Brothers beside me; we’ve all walked through hell.
Give us this day, one day let us rest,
Tomorrow’s a new day, we’ll be back at our best.

Mom, if you’re wishing upon this same star,
Know that I love you and take care of my car!
Tell Dad there’ll be no football to bet on this year,
Give Grandma and Grandpa a cup of good cheer.

Let everyone know for now, I’m okay,
For me and my buddies, remember to pray.
May each of you know the cost to be free,
Have faith we have paid it, in America we believe!”

With dawn fast approaching, God looks from above,
“My children, you’re honored, and oh, how you’re loved.
Your Country still needs you, with Angels walk tall,
My Sons and My Daughters, for YOU, I gave all.”

"OH WHAT A NIGHT"

Do you recall the night
That very, very special night
Do you remember a girl (that very, special girl)
Well to the old and to the new
We redeacate this song to you

Oh what a night, too love you dear
Oh what a night, too hold you near
Oh what a night, too squeeze you dear,
That's why I love you so.

Oh what a night, too love you dear
Oh what a night, too hold you dear
Oh what a night, too kiss you dear,
That's why I love you so

I won't forget all those things you have told to me
Things in my heart won't let me forget your love

Oh what a night, too love you dear
Oh what a night, too hold you near
Oh what a night, too squeeze you dear
That's why I love you so.

Oh what a night, too love you dear
Oh what a night, too want you dear
Oh what a night too kiss you dear
That's why I love you so.

One more night
Can I walk you home one more night
I wanna make love to you one more night
I love you baby
I want you baby
I need you baby
I love you baby.... one more night

WHEN FALLEN ANGELS CRY

There’s a special place in Heaven, where Fallen Angels go,
For, Jesus knows their comrades still need comfort down below.
From the range of basic training to a Warrior’s final stand,
He’ll never be forsaken when held by Angels’ hands.

Jesus loves His Warriors, for all He paid the price;
His tears will fill an ocean, when Fallen Angels cry.

An Angels’ job’s not easy, for, their wings are laden down,
With prayers from Warriors’ families, who kneel on sacred ground.
Angels’ hearts are golden. They shine with God’s pure light,
A strong and steady beacon for a Warrior’s lonely nights.

We often see a rainbow. Just pass the stormy sky.
A glorious undertaking, when Fallen Angels cry.

How God does love his Warriors, He welcomes each one home,
The Fallen stand e’er ready, so none will die alone.
Though battles rage eternal, our Warriors know no fear,
He knows his battle buddies will be bringing up the rear.

There, across the desert, he heaves a mighty sigh;
He knows he lost a comrade when Fallen Angels cry.

We watch him in the distance, just past the mourning crowd,
Standing at attention in a uniform worn proud.
He knows his job’s not over, though tired and battle worn,
He’ll go the final distance, with a soul that’s pure, but torn.

“Jesus, please receive me. I know not how or why.
Today I join the ranks of when Fallen Angels cry.”
