Hi all.
Now you can't drop a bomb like that, Spirit, and not leave us a recipe. Ha!
Oh Lylah,
those cheesecake cookies sound delish. I agree with Shady, and can't wait to make some. TY!
Ola,
thats what we are doing this year. The single turkey breast. I think Jennieo brand comes with real giblets inside and or a gravy packet.
Thank you for your post Rick.
It sounds like you and daughters have a cushy TG day planned. What's better than a grandma's house during holidays? Even a 'borrowed' grandma. Ha!
You all are delightful. Thank you very much for these great posts!
Now, lets get to work and nag Spirit for that eggnog pie recipe. Haha!
;)
My Grandma's Dressing
Small 8x8 pan yellow cornbread
4 slices each white, wheat and rye breads, toasted crispy.
Crumbled all the breads together.
1 small yellow onion diced
2 boiled eggs- diced (You might want to use just one. These were small yard eggs, compared to today's store bought)
2 stalks celery- de-stringed and diced
About a tablespoon each of:
Poultry seasoning
Parsley
Sage
Rosemary
Thyme
(Yes, just like the song ;)
A healthy shake to taste of salt and pepper.
She tossed all the ingredients, except the eggs, together and let them set covered over night to blend the flavors.
Next morning she added the eggs and her (shameful) secret ingredient~
a can of Campbell's cream of chicken soup diluted with just enough hot water to bind the dressing together.
Stuff the bird or bake it on the side for about 25-30 minutes.
Go to the Whole foods website and type in Eggnog pie....I'm too lazy to type it all out!

I do makes these every year....Toffee with Saltines!

Oh, me forgot!

Line cookie sheet with foil...
Then lay saltines in a row until cookie sheet is full...
Melt 2 sticks of Butter in a Saucepan..
Add I cup of Brown Sugar...
Stir until bubbly...
Poor over saltines and evenly spread with spoon or whatever...
Place it in a preheated oven on 350 degrees for 3 minutes..
Take it out and pour Hershey Milk Chocolate morsels on top....
The morsels will begin to melt and spread it evenly over the mixture.

Put the pan in the frige or freezer...until hard.
Cut into chunks or break bark in pieces.

Enjoy!

<quoted text>Yumm, it sounds like your dressing would complete the meal Ola. I've heard of some who cook and add the turkey neck meat to their dressing. The chicken sounds easier by hours! Thanks again!
My mom adds neck, gizzard, liver & heart to her dressing. I never knew it was there growing up.

If you are mixing something, and the bowl won't stay still...wet a towel and place under the bowl...works like a charm.

I have no idea how to make them so mayhaps you are right...divinity has a fudgy consistency & chewy...but the way I make meringues they actually melt instantly in your mouth... I have several recipes...when the kids were little we'd make them & you put in hot oven-turn oven off & leave overnight...these would be perfect next day & hollow inside...Jesus Tombs...haven't made those in a long time tho
