I do think about these things.
Then I look it up and try to understand
the ppl (like what motivated Charlie Wilson)
and what the social climate was.

Then I throw it out here and get other points
of view ....sometimes when ppl want to discuss
it.

A course in history could be your friend.
You are obviously unaware that all of central Europe was under Communist control.
It was only after Ronald Reagan's famous Berlin speech, "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall", did the Soviet Union collapse under its own weight.

Lt. Col. Stanislav Petrov, the officer in charge of Serpukhov-15, the secret bunker from which the Soviet Union monitored its early-warning satellites, indicated that the new system reported the launch of several missiles from the U.S. continental missile fields. Petrov had been told repeatedly that the United States would launch a massive nuclear strike designed to overwhelm Soviet forces in a single strike.

Why did that false alarm fail to trigger a nuclear war? Perhaps the Russian command did not want to start a war on the basis of data from a new and unique system. On the other hand, if the sun glint had caused the system to report hundreds of missile launches, then the Soviet Union might have mistakenly launched its missiles. Petrov said that he refused to pass the alert to his superiors because "when people start a war, they don't start it with only five missiles. You can do little damage with just five missiles."

This TOPIX poll is hilarious. I guess the Obots are staying awake 24/7 to spam the poll.
Nobody in their right mind, and with half a brain, would say that Obozo won.

Looks like you could use a class yourself.

The only thing Regan did was convince Russia that
he had a "star wars missile defense system" in
construction.
It was just another money maker, giving friends
of the admin the contract (and gov moeny) to build
a system that they knew was not possible at that
time.
It had the side effect of scaring Russia into being
a bit more cooperative.

Smart ass I've already checked All of the polls
this evening. Most all of them have both in a dead
tie...one has Obama up by 3 and another has Romney
up by 4 ...one is 47% to 47%.

I know I'm female but I'm one of Bill Maurs "readers" lol

just in.......... Buoyed by better poll numbers and a debate triumph, White House challenger Mitt Romney sought to build momentum Monday by vowing to restore strong US leadership in the Middle East.

The air-traffic controller's strike 25 years ago left many of the strikers jobless and unable to return to the FAA after President Reagan banned them. Broke that bull didn't he
