Who cares if you oppose boycotts? If a group of people wants to boycott wouldnít that be their decision?

How exactly are the terms of use a violation of the US Constitution? I would bet SCOTUS would disagree with you.

Boycotts over political disagreement are bad because they destroy political discourse. People should have a right to earn their living without worrying someone might object to their political speech. I defend your right to work even if I disagree with your politics.

I don't know about that, the courts are obligated to respond to petition, the administrative and legislative branch's are free to ignore petitions. Creating a White House petition website is a fraud played on the citizens.

How is the boycott bad? Do you dismiss a boycott is voluntary? When Dan Cathy made his statement which sent the left into a tirade they attempted a boycott. The result was a wildly successful Chick-fil-A appreciation day. The left response was a lack luster sit in.

Those who chose to boycott Chick-fil-A had every right to do so. While I disagree with them, itís their right none the less. I do enjoy Chick-fil-A and continue to patronize them.

The court is *NOT* obligated to act on every petition submitted on the White House website. Petition a court to deport someone, see what that gets you.

The petitions on the White House website are in no way a fraud. You at one point in this thread stated you would feel differently if Bush did it. What is wrong with you?

People don't appreciate the free country we live in. Some are offended by some of my actions like:

I will not go into some parts of the cities to buy off craigslist or any other list for that matter.

I treat driver of JAP cars differently than US branded cars.

I act differenty around people that act in a group OR are aggressive.

I don't shop in some stores that promote life styles I don't agree with.

I shop in stores that oppose lifestyles I don't agree with.

I reserve the right to walk away from anyone I don't like.

I reserve the right to say NO for any reason.

I reserve the right to donate to a cause I support.

I reserve the right to carry a legal weapon to defend myself.

I reserve the right to school my kids wherever I want to.

I reserve the right to live where I want to.

etc etc etc.....
==========

You see I like a free country with responsibilities.

That is what the USA is all about. Free to choose and work for you what you want.

If you don't work you will always live on the Government plantaion with crumbs to enjoy. You know a dumb ObamaPhone instead of a 4G dataphone. An apartment instead of a private house. A 10 year old car instead of a new SUV. Use public transit instead of a car, waiting at bus stops etc.

Boycotts cause economic harm; it takes away people's jobs and makes it harder for them to feed their families.
Boycotts aren't civil discourse; argument and discussion are civil discourse but boycotts work by starving your political opponents.

.
eternal cynic wrote:

I do. I only accept boycotts when used in self defense of immediate harm, such as boycotting Iran's nuclear weapons technology imports.

.

He was lucky; that doesn't happen often when the left has so much influence in the media.

See, you chose not to boycott because you made economic decisions based on price and need; not on political speech.

The court will act if you submit a petition in correct form. They may very well reject your petition but they are required by law to respond.

The White House is not required to respond to petition. Their petition website defrauds people into believing their participation will influence policy when it's just propaganda tool and a political polling tool.

.
eternal cynic wrote:

The press would sure act differently if Bush had abridged the citizen's right to petition with explicit limits and rules for submissions.

Maybe I should petition the Court to make Obama stop; what do you think? Would you sign on?

So, you would force someone to do business with someone with an opposing belief?

Why did you assume my choice not to boycott Chik-fil-A was based on price or need? You assume much. I donít boycott Chik-fil-A because I enjoy their products. Is that so hard for you to understand? I frankly didnít care about what Dan Cathy said.

Do you realize the link you provided has nothing to do with the US? Not only that you pasted some of the text. Read what you pasted and then say ooops

The White House isnít defrauding anyone with the ability to post petitions.

Why donít you petition the court? Will I sign on? Not only no but hell no. I think itís a great idea. Maybe more people will become involved in the process.

Just for good measure, besides this is too good to pass up so Iíll copy it and state it again.

Eli Lilly & Co. spent $128 million promoting Cymbalta (duloxetene) for the year through August, according to IMS Health. With an award-winning ad campaign and 70% sales growth in a cluttered category, the Hoosiers got their money's worth, seeing $1.3 billion in 2006 sales and rating a 6-1 return on investmentóvirtually unheard of among top drug advertisers.

That's not what I wrote; I wouldn't force people to not boycott or to boycott. I'm just pointing out boycotts aren't civil discourse; you don't seem to dispute that opinion.

Price and need means you enjoy their products (they fulfill need) and you can afford the price. We should all make economic decisions based on enjoying products and buying what we can afford. Again, you don't seem to dispute the point; we want good products not products provided by people forced to share our politics.

Your right; I made a mistake and posted a link to a Canadian court instead of a US court. Let me try to correct that:

http://www.nysd.uscourts.gov/file/forms/petit...

Instructions for Filing
Petition for a Writ of Habeas Corpus under
28 U.S.C.ß 2241...

.
eternal cynic wrote:

They are abridging our freedom to petition with their usage policies. Further, if they offer a petition to impeach where only Congress has the right to impeach, they are misdirecting the people.

I oppose demagogy; you defend Obama's sham petition process; this is where we differ.

Again, sorry for the mistake. Isn't it interesting that our law, like Candada's is based on the same principles? Now you know, "the judiciary is the only branch of government that is always obligated to consider and respond to petitions submitted to it."
