After trying out your new bride's dinner (that she very lovingly made you)... and then, when she asks: "How is it"? YOUR dumba$$ replies with: "Not bad Hun, but not quite like ma used to make". All the while filling your gullet..

Ummm yea. Needless to say, that was a major rookie mistake. And after I heard some familiar words, but in some very new and interesting combinations...I then realized the value of not being quite so critical of others. Especially, her.

And of course, of keeping the taste bud tantalizing memory of my beloved maternal parent's cooking to my own darned self. Now... If memory serves me right... that's the day I got VERY specific directions to an unnamed and very, very hot place, somewhere fairly far south. And also to where the stove was located in our abode? Like I didn't know where the stove was in our place? Yeesh...women!

But good training goes both ways. When we would occasionally show early at my mom's house for a yummy dinner... I would usually suggest that we should go in and help with the cooking... as of course, all concerned children SHOULD do. Now.. do you see what I did there? She picked up quite a few tricks of the trade by using this method. But unfortunately... so did I. Which my better half does seem to occasionally throw back in my face, much to my annoyance. So that I sometimes end up just making it.

Err..yea. What was I saying about training?

Probably best to say at the very last minute, that you WOULD help, but your Dad requested your assistance...(usually watching a game on the couch). If you're very lucky, it just may work...

Are you suggesting that a marriage proposal should go like "After you've completed cooking classes from my ma, will you marry me?"
