The president is convinced Americans need to pay more in taxes. Here's what he said yesterday.

"I think everybody out there understood that was an important debate and the majority of voters agreed with me. By the way, more voters agreed with me on this issue than voted for me! So we've got a clear majority of the American people who recognize if we're gonna be serious about deficit reduction we gotta do it in a balanced way."

But let me tell you, come January 1, you're probably not going to be happy with the amount of taxes you're paying. That's because it's not just Federal taxes that you pay.

A middle class taxpayer pays 25% percent of their income in Federal Income Tax. Sounds, ok?

Then there is the Federal Social Security and Medicare payroll tax of 13.3%. You pick up 5.65% while you're employer pays 7.65%. Add them up and that's 38.3% of middle class family incomes going to Uncle Sam. But we aren't done, not by a long shot.

According to the Tax Foundation, the average state's income tax rate on the middle class is 4.82%. Of course, some states have it and some don't, but we're taking an average here.

Now the total: 43.12% of middle class income to taxes.

Oh, and I almost forgot, unless congress makes a move, Federal Income taxes go to 28% for middle income folks next year as the Bush tax cuts expire.

Neither party has said they want that to happen, but in Washington, well, you never know.

Also the payroll tax for those folks will go to 15.3% from 13.3%percent.

Did I mention state, property, corporate, and excise taxes? No?

All told, next year, total taxes will go to almost 50% for the middle class; the very group that the president says he wants to protect. That means 50 cents out of every dollar earned has to go to the government. Half of everything will go to an entity that didn't earn that money, and shouldn't be entitled to all that dough.

Unbelievable. You think most Americans agree that's fair?

I don't think so.

As of last year (2011)...

Federal taxes on middle-income Americans are near historic lows, according to the latest available data. Thatís true both for federal income taxes and total federal taxes.

A family of four in the exact middle of the income spectrum will pay only 5.6 percent of its 2011 income in federal income taxes, according to a new analysis by the Urban Institute-Brookings Institution Tax Policy Center. Average income tax rates for these typical families have been lower during the Bush and Obama Administrations than at any time since the 1950s, as Figure 1 shows.(As discussed below, 2009 and 2010 were particularly low because of the temporary Making Work Pay Tax Credit.)

The GOP has to agree to increasing taxes on the upper 2%- otherwise they run the risk of being blamed for tax hikes across the board - even they're not that stupid...I hope.

Sorry M69 your not being convincing enough to me,
I agree with SS - 1/2 of all 'we' make goes for taxes of one sort or another - and to top that off the 1/2 'we' get to keep is worth less than 1/2 what it was 4 years ago.

I think the Prez is looking for one-world government with him as the chief monkey.
In Sweden 50% of what a person makes goes to the government. That's where we're headed.(And gas is $8. a gallon.)

This is a "re-posting" of something I put on another thread last week. And just a small part of what's coming in the future..
__________
--Just found out from our HR Manager that there will be a "very significant" increase in our group coverage rates coming soon. Now I have to inform fifteen people, all of who make between 30k and 45k a year, that their rates will be going up. If they opt-out they will eventually be penalized on their taxes approx $700.00. These are hard working people trying to scratch out a living for their families. Of course, this will be happening all across our nation.....

So much for "A Fair Shot" for the middle class.--

No way to shoot this one down, I have the documentation....

The rich need to pay more. So stubborn and set in their old and greedy ways. They got away with paying less taxes for far too long and accustomed to their loopholes. Taxes would still go up even if Romney had won - tax cuts for the rich. Obama wants the rich to pay out a little more so the tax increases aren't as bad on the commoners. He's trying, but the Republicans don't want to meet him half way. It would be helpful to us all if they would cooperate. If the don't or won't, more people will suffer. Of course, they already know that, but why should they care.

I'd be extremely happy to pay my share of $700.00 more - where do I send the money?

It may cover a set of golf balls for a three week Presidential vacation to Hawaii.. Dec. 17th to Jan. 6th...

All while the employees here have to work through the holidays to make ends meet in a terrible economy "and" help pay for this vacation..

All presidents take vacations. G.W certainly took his fair share of them, in fact he took a lot. After the crap that the Republicans have been putting Obama through and refusing to cooperate, can't say that I blame him. Also, we don't know for sure whether taxpayers are footing the bill for this vacation. Do you think Georgie paid for any of his vacations? We're still all paying for that war.

I've worked through the holidays too - as a matter of fact I haven't had any holidays off for years. Maybe after we tax the f*ck out of the rich, we'll see some managers in here too.

Working the holidays is not a case for hardship - it's called a "job."

The hardship "is not" the work,, It's the cost of living.
The cost of gasoline,
The cost of food,
The cost of electricity,
The cost of goods and services,
All have gone up,,
All the while the value of dollar is falling.
That means "Your Dollar Buys Less and Less",, the same effect as taking a cut in pay.

The president needs to be in Washington demostrating some leadership... "Business before Pleasure", he can take a vacation any time

How the Republicans would like to see the president fail at what he wants to do to try and help Americans. By refusing to cooperate, they are only helping to make matters worse for everyone but themselves. It's always been that way. Most know that the Republicans need to respond and meet with the president on these matters. They're too stubborn and set in their ways to realize that their greed ultimately affects us all.

I've got news for you - it's called inflation and it's been happening with annual regularity since the early 1900's.

Yeah, cancel his vacation and do what - work with all the Republican empty seats?

It goes both ways.

About as much as they've shown him.

Take of those blinders for a change - "No taxes" is not a deficit reduction plan, but Congress seems to think so.

Q: Has President Obama taken more vacation time than his predecessors?

A: According to one count, Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush spent more time on "vacation" during their first year than president Obama did. Presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton spent less time on "vacation."

You didn't answer my question, but that's okay..

I seldom argue politics or religion on topix but occasionally express an opinon. I've said all I needed to say. It's just that I see living proof in the daily lives of what is happening to the good men and women working under me,, and I care about them..
Many have fought and died to give us the right to disagree with our government and we are thankful to them. That being said,,
God Bless you all and have a Merry Christmas..

Actually, we have several branches of the armed forces who are sworn to protect the Flag, our freedoms and follow only one man's orders - The President of the United States. We didn't fall into a black hole after Vietnam, it won't happen now.
