There should be a law against this. I wish somebody could save Marius. Something has to be done.

Maybe another zoo can take Marius, or someone who has a sancturary. They should not be allowed to put Marius down!!! Marius is healthy, they just don't think he's a good enough suiter for the female Giraff, they want to breed. This is an outrage !!!!

Zoo personnel apparently got death threats after their culling of the first giraffe.

I guess this is the zoo's way of retaliating in a way for those death threats...commit the same outrage a second time.

That is sad. Why are they killing their creatures? It makes no sense at all!

The whole story is disturbing to say the least. They had offers from other zoos to take the first one they killed, but killed him anyway. Even more disturbing, they butchered him after they shot him, and fed him to lions and polar bears, all in front of school children. As a parent, I assure you, I would never allow my young child to watch something so awful. This zoo needs to be shut down. Giraffes in the wild can live up to 25 years, and the one they shot was only 18 months old. Just sickening.

It is curious as to how people who claim to be maintaining and protecting a species lack any compassion to the same species. It is a contradiction in terms.Perhaps the management and staff responsible are secret sociopaths living out their tendencies in the zoo??Who knows only the warped minds of these individuals.

They would have been perfect apprentices to Dr Mengle and those scum who ran the concentration camps in my opinion.Bunch of sickos!

Thay had other offers from other zoos concerning the first one? If that is accurate info. horrible is not even the word for what happened to this baby Giraff. I pray the 2nd one doesn't get the same fate!

Yes they did. The whole story was on Inside Edition the other night. Sickening. And they allowed young school children to watch the butcher it and feed it to the lions and polar bears. They guy who killed it said he gave the giraffe a piece of rye bread and when he bent down to take it, he shot it in the head. The zoo said they killed him to prevent inbreeding, but other zoos had offered to take him, and they could have had him neutered if inbreeding was the worry. Very disturbing. Look online and see if you can see the piece on Inside Edition, but I warn you, it is grafic.

I agree. With many options available to them, the way they handled it was despicable. All involved should be fired, and their zoo license terminated. Sorry I didn't have better news for you. I was sickened when I saw the story. Have a good evening.

Yesterday on yahoo news they had a story about a newborn giraffe born at another zoo 30 miles from there on Valentines day.
To top that, the calf has a perfect heart shaped spot on its hip with an arrow head shaped spot, aimed at it. If you're curious check it out. And look at the comments below the pictures. They are much like these on here.
